REVELATION.

8. All thy garments smell of myrrh, and aloes, and cassia, out of the ivory palaces, whereby they have made thee glad.*

9. Kings' daughters are among thy honourables.+

Upon thy right hand did stand the queen in gold of Ophir.

PARALLEL PREDICTIONS.

the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God: to comfort all that mourn. To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified. Isaiah lxi. 1-3. And the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears. Isaiah xi. 2, 3.

Even he shall build the temple of the Lord; and he shall bear the glory, and shall sit and rule upon his throne; and he shall be a priest upon his throne: and the counsel of peace shall be between them both. Zech. vi. 13.

All the kindreds of the nations shall worship before thee. Psalm xxii. 27.

And it shall be at that day, saith the Lord, that thou shalt call me Ishi, and shalt call me no more Baali. And I will betroth thee unto me in righteousness, and in judgment, and in lovingkindness, and in mercies. And I will even betroth thee unto me in faithfulness and thou shalt know the Lord. Hosea ii. 16, 19, 20. Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him;

* Bishop Horsley thus reads the verse: "Thy garments are all myrrh, aloes, and cassia. Excelling the palaces of ivory, excelling those that delight thee." He thinks this mention of the sweet smelling spices is an allusion to the priestly character of our Lord; these are his words, The perfumed garments of the Psalmist's King denote the very same thing which was typified under the law by the perfumed garments of the High Priest.'-Horsley's Sermons.

THE PSALMIST'S REVELATION.

11. So shall the king greatly desire thy beauty:

For he is thy Lord;

And worship thou him.

12. And the daughter of Tyre shall be there with a gift: even the rich among the people shall intreat thy favour.

13. The king's daughter is all glorious within; her clothing is of wrought gold.

14. She shall be brought unto the king in raiment of needlework :

for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready. Rev. xix. 7.

Thou shalt be called Hephzi-bah. for the Lord delighteth in thee. And as the bridegroom rejoiceth over the bride, so shall thy God rejoice over thee. Isaiah lxii. 4, 5.

And I, the Lord, will be their God, and my servant David a prince among them I the Lord have spoken it. Ezek. xxxiv. 24.

But they shall serve the Lord their God, and David their king, whom I will raise up unto them. Jer. xxx. 9.

And her merchandise and her hire shall be holiness unto the Lord: it shall not be treasured nor laid up: for her merchandise shall be for them that dwell before the Lord, to eat sufficiently, and for durable clothing. Isaiah xxiii. 18. The multitude of camels shall cover thee, the dromedaries of Midian and Ephah; all they from Sheba shall come: they shall bring gold and incense; and they shall shew forth the praises of the Lord. All the flocks of Kedar shall be gathered together unto thee, the rams of Nebaioth shall minister unto thee: they shall come up with acceptance on mine altar, and I will glorify the house of my glory. Isaiah Ix. 6, 7.

Put on thy beautiful garments, O Jerusalem, the holy city. Isaiah lii. 1. And it shall come to pass, that he that is left in Zion, and he that remaineth in Jerusalem, shall be called holy, even every one that is written among the living in Jerusalem. Isaiah iv. 3. Thy people also shall be all righteous. Isaiah lx. 21.

I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments

The virgins her companions that follow her shall be brought unto thee.

15. They shall enter into the king's palace.

16. Instead of thy fathers shall be thy children, whom thou mayest make princes in all the earth.

PARALLEL PREDICTIONS.

and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels. Isaiah lxi. 10.

Thus saith the Lord of hosts; In those days it shall come to pass, that ten men shall take hold out of all languages of the nations, even shall take hold of the skirt of him that is a Jew, saying, We will go with you: for we have heard that God is with you. Zech. viii. 23. And many nations shall be joined to the Lord in that day, and shall be my people. Zech. ii. 11.

Thus saith the Lord of hosts; It shall yet come to pass, that there shall come people, and the inhabitants of many cities and the inhabitants of one city shall go to another, saying, Let us go speedily to pray before the Lord, and to seek the Lord of hosts: I will go also. Yea, many people and strong nations shall come to seek the Lord of bosts in Jerusalem, and to pray before the Lord. Zech. viii. 20-22. Also the sons of the stranger, that join themselves to the Lord, to serve him, and to love the name of the Lord, to be his servants; even them will I bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer: their burnt offerings and their sacrifices shall be accepted upon mine altar: for mine house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations. The Lord God which gathereth the outcasts of Israel, saith, Yet will I gather others to him, besides those that are gathered unto him. Isaiah lvi. 6-8.

The children which thou shalt have, after thou hast lost the other, shall say again in thine ears, The place is too strait for me give place to me that I may dwell. Then shalt thou say in thine heart, Who hath begotten me these, seeing I have lost my children, and am desolate, a captive, and removing too and fro? and who hath brought up these? Behold, I was left alone; these, where had they been?

17. I will make thy name to be remembered in all generations:

Therefore shall the

people praise thee for ever and ever.

PARALLEL PREDICTIONS.

Isaiah xlix. 20, 21. Sing, O barren, thou that didst not bear; break forth into singing, and cry aloud, thou that didst not travail with child; for more are the children of the desolate than the children of the married wife, saith the Lord. Enlarge the place of thy tent, and let them stretch forth the curtains of thine habitations: spare not, lengthen thy cords, and strengthen thy stakes. For thou shalt break forth on the right hand and on the left, and thy seed shall inherit the Gentiles, and make the desolate cities to be inhabited. Isaiah liv. 1-3.

His name shall endure for ever: his name shall be continued as long as the sun. Psalm lxxii. 17. For from the rising of the sun even unto the going down of the same, my name shall be great among the Gentiles; and in every place incense shall be offered unto my name, and a pure offering: for my name shall be great among the heathen, saith the Lord of hosts. Malachi i. 11.

Let the people praise thee, O God; let all the people praise thee. Psalm lxvii. 3. A. A.

Fruit of Faith in the Trinity is an exhibition of the Graces of the Spirit.

1. What particular "Graces of the Spirit" are we led to pray for in the Service for this day?

2. How may we attain to the subduing of the flesh? 3. What are the distinguishing marks of "those that are Christ's!"

15TH SUNDAY AFTER TRINITY.

Fruit of Faith in the Trinity is a sense of the Church's need, and her strength in Christ.

1. In what portions of the Service for this day are we led to a confession of our own weakness?

2. In what does the true strength of the Church of Christ consist ?

3. To whom must the Church alone look for strengthening, sustaining, and maintaining grace?

16TH SUNDAY AFTER TRINITY.

Fruit of Faith in the Trinity is a seeking for Grace from Christ.

1. What attribute of Christ do we plead to be exercised in the Service for to-day?
