Look upon all connected with us, as fellow-members of one church; may they be truly thine, grow in grace, glorify thy name, and be a blessing to others. Look in mercy upon those who have hitherto neglected thy great salvation; who, year after year, with continually increasing guilt refuse thy grace; and now at length convert them, before the day of salvation be past, and their hearts become wholly hardened in sin. Save our country from foes within or without. Guide our rulers. Bless our spiritual pastors. Bless all the ministers and missionaries of Christ in every land, and may all nations whom thou hast made come and worship before thee and glorify thy name, for Jesus' sake.

THURSDAY MORNING.

FOR THE HOLY SPIRIT.

O thou, who art a just God, and a Saviour, and there is none besides thee, forming the light and creating darkness, making peace and creating evil, doing all things; we worship together and adore thee. Thou art most holy and most true; yet merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy; through one Lord Jesus Christ, and by one Spirit, with bended knees, and a confiding, grateful, and glad heart, we come before thee. Put thy fear into our hearts, that we may never depart from thee.

Thanks be unto thee, thou Giver of all good, for the most precious gift of thy love, Jesus Christ. How could we, sinful as we are, come near unto thee without him! How could we see and know thee but by seeing Jesus! How could we have any communion with thee but by his grace! In thy light alone can we see light, and behold as in a glass thy glory, and be changed into the same image. Thanksgiving, praise, and glory be to God for his unspeakable gift.

And seeing, O our most merciful Father, that thou hast given thy Son, withhold not also thine own Spirit. Give us, O Father, freely, that great gift which we now most of all want for our souls' renewal and prosperity. Thy Son, the faithful witness, has declared, that if we, being evil, know how to give good gifts to our children, much more shall our heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him. We know, O our God, that they are true words: he who is the truth has said them. We cast ourselves on thy faithfulness. We believe thy promise, and in the name of Jesus we now ask, that we may now receive thy blessed Spirit. O Holy Ghost, teach us. O Holy Ghost, guide us unto all truth, sanctify us by the truth, uphold us to the end, comfort us in sorrow, give us joy in the Lord, and prepare us for His kingdom and glory.

Holy Father, give not the Holy Ghost to us thy waiting children in small measure, but largely pour

upon us showers of thy grace. Baptize us with the Spirit, fill our souls with his grace and unction, so that we may abound in joy, and peace, and hope and holy love, through the power of the Holy Ghost.

We entreat thee farther for an enlarging, growing, and deepening knowledge of thy truth. Grant us grace ever to search the Scriptures diligently, prayerfully, practically, and with patient meditation and perseverance. Give us more light and understanding in thy word, and may this light cheer, and warm, and bless not only our own souls, but all around us.

Grant us also fervent, glowing, supreme, and intense love to thee, and zeal to do good to all men, and especially to the household of faith. May we look diligently lest we fail of the grace of God, and may we follow peace and holiness day by day. Let the hope of seeing thee, the great and glorious God, animate us to strive more and more after holiness, coming unto Jesus to purify us unto himself among his peculiar people, zealous of good works.

Bless all for whom we ought to pray; and make us considerate, not only of those in our immediate circle, but of the wants of all with whom we have any thing to do. Bless our kindred, our neighbours, our friends, our church, the whole church of Christ, our rulers, our country, and Jews and Gentiles through the earth. Pour out of thy Spirit on all, and now and ever take us under thy care and providence, through Jesus Christ.

THURSDAY EVENING.

FOR FORGIVENESS AND THE SPIRIT OF ADOPTION,INTERCESSION.

O Lord, the great and mighty God, glorious in holiness, a consuming fire and a jealous God, ever to be had in reverence, and a merciful God waiting to be gracious, and ever to be trusted; we would come into thy presence with filial fear and child-like confidence, by Jesus Christ, thine own appointed way for our return unto thee. Do thou thyself draw us that we may come unto thee. By him, as the door of the sheep, may we, the sheep of thy fold, enter in and be saved, and go in and out and find pasture.

O Lord, we thank thee for all the truths of thy holy word. May we diligently search into them and receive them with faith, meekness, and gladness of heart. May thy word be to us a full warrant for all it testifies, and thine own means of communicating to us continually increasing faith. May it be a lamp to our feet and a light to our paths, by taking heed to which we may cleanse our way through a world full of pollution and sin

Forgive, O Lord, forgive all our sins. We were born in sin, we are transgressors from the womb, and from our youth up we have continually trespassed in thy sight; doing what we ought not, and leaving

undone what thou hast commanded us to do. In this very day we have been backward in self-denial, and in taking up our cross; we have been slow to speak and act for thee; thy presence has been disregarded, and thy glory not sought; thy law has been disobeyed, thy gospel neglected, and duties and privileges have been lost sight of. Thus we have been cold in thy service, and worldly, and selfish, and vain, and unbelieving. Our secret faults are many, and we have wearied thy patience with our iniquities.

We can indeed plead nothing in ourselves; but hast thou not testified, "I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins?" We cast these our guilty souls on thy faithful promises. Our only refuge is the Lord Jesus Christ, and thy sure promise of forgiveness of sins in his name, and of justification to all who believe in him. Give unto each of us grace to believe thy promises, and to cleanse ourselves thereby from all filthiness of the flesh and of the spirit. We now commit ourselves and all we are and have, in dependence on thy grace in him, unto thee, our God and our salvation, for time and for eternity.

And now, Lord, send thy Spirit into our hearts, to bear witness with us that we are thy children; and may we hereafter walk in the liberty of the gospel, and have full confidence in thy fatherly love to.
