In the United States there are eighteen cities with a population of 300,000 or more, and of these only four have a rate of taxation per capita less than Chicago. The Chicago rate is $15.74. Convention-Preparation Meeting Nearly one hundred and fifty Chicago men were the guests of James L. Houghteling, Jr., Chairman of the Convention Committee at his home at Winnetka, on a recent Saturday afternoon when a ConventionPreparation meeting was held. A delightful afternoon. was spent in playing games and bathing in Lake Michigan. A Service followed in Christ Church with a sermon by the Rev. F. G. Budlong, the Rector, on "St. Peter," it being St. Peter's Day, and short addresses on the Convention by W. N. Sturges, Treasurer, Convention Committee, T. H. Trenholm, Secretary, Convention Committee, Courtenay Barber and Mr. Houghteling. Supper was served on the Houghteling lawn and a vote of thanks and a hearty cheer were given to Mr. Houghteling. 220 MEMBERS OF THE CHICAGO LOCAL ASSEMBLY ATTTENDED THIS SUPPER. THEY ARE THE MEN WHO ARE WORKING HARD FOR THE BIG CONVENTION IN SEPTEMBER. It is with the greatest of pleasure that I enclose the sum of Two Dollars to cover the cost of the registration fee to the Chicago Convention. I have been elected a Delegate from the Honolulu Local Assembly and I shall probably travel further than any other Delegate, I think that the distance is about 4745 Miles. I shall sail from Honolulu on Aug. 24th. and expect to arrive in Chicago on the 3rd. of Sept. if all goes well. It is with the greatest impatienshall ce that I am waiting for the time when I arrive and meet all of you Brotherhood Men. I am writing to Dr. Carlton also by this mail and am letting him know that I am coming.
