Mr. Agry offered the following resolution, which was adopted, to wit: Resolved, That the committee on the Judiciary be instructed to devise some plan for expediting the publication of the opinions and decisions of the Supreme Court, and to report by bill or otherwise. Agreeably to previous notice and by leave Mr. Thompson in troduced bill No. 20, entitled "a bill for the collection of cer. tain taxes in the county of Milwaukee.” Which was read the first and second times. Mr. Crossman presented the petition of E. M. Williamson, clerk of the board of county commissioners of Dane county, asking permission to occupy a room in the capitol for the commissioners' and register's office, which was Referred to the committee on territorial affairs. Mr. Crossman from the committee on engrossed bills reported to be correctly engrossed, No. 9, a bill to amend an act entitled an act to provide for the printing and distribution of the laws of Wisconsin." Mr. Hamilton from the committee on the Judiciary, to which was referred a petition on the subject, reported bill No. 21, entitted "a bill to organize the county of Portage for judicial and other purposes." Which was read the first and second times. Mr. Walker presented the annual report of the register and receiver of the Milwaukee and Rock River canal. Which was read, referred to the committee on internal im. provements, and one hundred copies thereof ordered to be print ed. The Speaker announced the special order of the day, being No. 2, [C. F.] entitled "an act to provide for the appointment of a Superintendent of territorial property, and for other purpo ses," which the Governor had returned to the Council with his objections thereto. On motion of Mr. Walker, A call of the House was made and the sergeant-at-arms sent to notify Mr. Mecker that his attendance in the House was re. quired. "Mr. Speaker-The Governor has notified the Council that he did on the 21st inst. approve and sign "an act to annex certain fractions or lots of land to the town of Rock," also that he did on the 22d inst. approve und sign an act entitled "an act to change the name of Henry Sanders Brown," also that he did on the 23d inst. approve and sign "an act to provide for the election of sheriffs, judges of probate, and justices of the peace.” also that he did on this day approve and sign a bill entitled "an act fixing the time of holding the annual sessions of the Legislative Assembly, and for other punposes." The following entitled bills of this House, were severally read the third time, passed, and the titles thereof agreed to, viz: No. 4, "a bill concerning road taxes." Mr. Darling, by leave, offered the following preamble and resolvtion, to wit: Whereas, The reporter of the Wisconsin Inquirer is guilty of falsely reporting in said paper of the 23d inst. the report of the joint committee on enrolments, in relation to the presentation of a bill to the Governor, entitled "an act to annex ceriain frac tions or lots of land to the town of Rock in the county of Rock," made on the 17th inst., and Whereas, In the same paper, a certain preamble and resolu tiens of the Legislative Assembly in relation to the present session, are published with an important omission, which materially changes the sense and meaning of the preamble prefixed to said resolutions, and Whereas, The report of the proceedings of this House, in the same paper, is made in a manner calculated and apparently in. tended, to place a certain member of this House in a ridiculous attitude before the community, in a slanderous and libellous manner, therefore Resolved, That the reporter and editor of the Wisconsin Enquirer be expelled from seats within the bar of this House. And pending the question on the passage of the preamble and resolution. A call of the House was made, and the sergeant-at-arms di rected to notify Mr, Palmer, who was not in his seat, that his presence was required in the House. Mr. Palmer having appeared, further proceedings in the call of the House were dispensed with. F.) entitled “a bill to authorise the construction of certain dams across Rock river." After some time spent therein, the committee rose and Mr. Darling reported the same back to the house with amendments. A motion was then made by Mr. Hamilton to adjourn. Which was disagreed to. Mr. Hamilton then called for the question to be taken separately on each amendment reported by the committee. When the first and second amendments were concurred in. Mr. Hamilton moved to amend the third amendment, which described the width of the lock, by striking out "twenty-four" and inserting "thirty."
