The righteousness of faith.

CHAP. X, XI. place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people; there shall they be called, The children of the living God. 27 Esaias also crieth concerning Israel, Though the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, a remnant shall be saved:

23 For he will finish the work, and cut it short in righteousness: because a short work will the Lord inake upon the earth.

29 And as Esaias said before, Except the Lord of Sabaoth had left us a seed, we had been as Sodoma, and been made like unto Gomorrah.

30 What shall we say then? That the Gentiles which followed not after righteousness, have attained to righteousness, even the righteousness which is of faith 31 But Israel, which followed after the law of righteousness, hath not attained to the law of righteousness."

32 Wherefore? Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumbling-stone;

Israel not wholly rejected 10 For with the heart, man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth, confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. 12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all, is rich unto all that calf upon him.

13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?

15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!

16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?

17 So then, faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

33 As it is written, Behold, I lay in 18 But I say, Have they not heard? X. Difference betwixt the law and faith. BRETHREN, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved.

19 But I say, Did not Israel know? First, Moses saith, I will provoke you to jealousy by them that are no people, and by a foolish nation I will anger you. 20 But Esaias is very bold, and saith, I 2 For I bear them record that they have was found of them that sought me not; I a zeal of God, but not according to was made manifest unto them that asked knowledge. not after me.

3 For they, being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteous-ness of God.

21 But to Israel he saith, All day long I have stretched forth my hands unto a disobedient and gainsaying people. CHAP. XI.

14 If by any means I may provoke to emulation them which are my flesh, and might save some of them.

15 For if the casting away of them be the reconciling of the world, what shall the receiving of them be, but life from the dead?

16 For if the first fruit be holy, the lump is also holy and if the root be holy, so are the branches.

29 For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.

31 Even so have these also now not be lieved, that through your mercy they also may obtain mercy.

34 For who hatli known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor? 35 Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again? 36 For of him, and through him, and to him are all things: to whom be glory for

7 For none of us liveth to himself, and no man dieth to himself.

8 For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord's.

9 For to this end Christ both died, and ose, and revived, that he might be Lord both of the dead and living.

10 But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment-seat of Christ.

11 For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.

12 So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.

7 Wherefore receive ye one another, as Christ also received us, to the glory of God.

8 Now I say that Jesus Christ was a minister of the circumcision for the truth of God, to confirm the promises made unto the fathers:

10 And again he saith, Rejoice, ye Gentiles, with his people.

9 And that the Gentiles might glorify. 13 Let us not therefore judge one an-God for his mercy; as it is written, For other any more: but judge this rather, this cause I will confess to thee amongTM that no man put a stumbling-block, or an the Gentiles, and sing unto thy name. occasion to fall in his brother's way. 14 I know, and am persuaded by the Lord Jesus, that there is nothing unclean 11 And again, Praise the Lord, all ye of itself: but to him that esteemeth any Gentiles; and laud him, all ye people. thing to be unclean, to him it is unclean. 12 And again Esaias saith, There shall 15 But if thy brother be grieved with be a root of Jesse, and he that shall rise thy meat, now walkest thou not charita- to reign over the Gentiles; in him shall bly. 19 Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and Uings wherewith one may edify another.

20 For meat destroy not the work of God. All things indeed are pure; but it is evil for that man who eateth with offence. 21 It is good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor any thing whereby thy brother stumbleth, or is offended, or is made, weak.

15 Nevertheless, brethren, I have written the more boldly unto you in some sort, as putting you in mind, because of the grace that is given to me of God, 16 That I should be the minister of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles, ministering the gospel of God that the offering up of the Gentiles miga be acceptable, being sanctified by the Holy Ghost.

18 For I will not dare to speak of any of those things which Christ hath not wrought by me, to make the Gentiles obedient, by word and deed,
