fear not behold, your God will come with vengeance, even God with a recompence; he will come and save you."-Isaiah xxxv. 4.

The prophet says, The Lord your God will come with vengeance. But when will he come? We cannot tell, but we know that he will come. The question is then,

Are you prepared for that coming, and how are you to get prepared for that coming? By prayer. You may say, I do pray regularly every night and morning. But the question is, do you pray sincerely from your heart? Whatever troubles, whatever distresses you are in, fly to the Saviour; cast all your cares on him. "Be strong, fear not." What does the prophet say? "Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts, and let him return unto the Lord, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon." Let your prayers be ever so long, they are not heard unless they come from the heart. Now is the time to prepare for that solemn meeting; think whether you are prepared; whether he will have to take vengeance on you; whether you will be up in heaven above, or in that place beneath.-12 years old.

"If children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint heirs with Christ."-Rom. viii. 17.

The whole Bible is beautiful, but here and there we find a chapter or two that strikes our mind more than others; this is one of them. You see that there is no

condemnation for those who are heirs of God, but for those who are not heirs of God, there is condemnation. I have no doubt but you would all like to know whether you are an heir of God or not. If we are heirs of God, when we die, we shall be happy in heaven. Perhaps there are some of you, who are thinking, When I die, if I go to heaven, I shall be put in one corner, so that nobody will find me without they look for me; but it is not so,-remember that Jesus said, "Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom." Now suppose a friend of yours had a fine house and garden, and trees, and some hundred acres of land, and a great deal of property. Then, if this friend was to die, and leave this large estate to you, then you would be heir of it; and would you not be very pleased, and joyful, and glad to think that you had so much riches? but what are the riches of this world compared to the riches of heaven! Now suppose that we are not heirs of God; then, when we die we shall go to hell, and be in pain and misery throughout all eternity. Remember what it says in the first epistle of Paul to the Corinthians, chapter the fifteenth. "The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law; but thanks be to God, who giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ." As sinners and transgressors of the law, we must repent and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and he will forgive us, and we become heirs of God; and if we are heirs of God, we are joint heirs with Christ, and when we die we shall go to heaven, and be along with angels

and archangels, and Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the people of God. We may not be the nearest to God; perhaps the prophets, and apostles, and martyrs may be the nearest to God; but we shall be there.-Aged 9.

"Walk as children of light."-Ephesians iv. 8. The righteous are frequently called in the Bible, the opposite to what the wicked are. Thus we find the righteous called the children of God, and the wicked the children of the devil; the righteous are called the children of light, and the wicked the children of darkness; and again, the righteous are called heavenly, the wicked earthly. If we go back to the time of Adam, and compare our knowledge of scripture things with his, we will find that we are in the light. He had but one promise of a Saviour; that was that the seed of the woman should bruise the head of the serpent. We have many precious promises. Again, if we go back to the time of Moses, or the prophets, or even the apostles, we shall find, that compared with all these, we are in the light. They had only the Old Testament Scriptures; we have both the Old and the New. They had no Epistles, and we have them all. But the most important point is to discover whether we are really the children of light. It is possible for us to live in the midst of light, and yet not to be the children of light.-11 years old.

"Thou art a mighty prince among us."-Gen. xxiii. part of 6th verse.

All persons (whether they be the friends of God or not,) have their misfortunes, trials, and troubles. In this chapter we find Abraham (a most devoted servant of God,) bereaved of his beloved wife Sarah. "And Sarah died, being an hundred and seven and twenty years old." In the words of our text, Abraham is addressed by the children of Heth, as a mighty prince. Now the chief reason for my selecting this text in preference to any other, is because we have had so recently a prince, yea, and I may say, a mighty prince, among us. You all know to whom I refer; it is to His Royal Highness Prince Albert, the consort of our most gracious Queen. He is indeed a mighty prince. I will show you a few reasons for which we may call him a mighty prince. He is related to many of the royal families of Europe. In this, therefore, he is a mighty prince. The Prince himself is married to the sovereign of England; and is not England the most powerful empire in the world? The sun is always shining in some of her dominions. In this he is a mighty prince. Now since His Royal Highness has condescended to come from his stately palace to visit us, we ought to make the best of his visit, and try to make both the Prince and ourselves profit by it. You will directly say, Why what can we poor children do by which he can profit? Why, pray for the Prince, and all connected with him. I will just tell you for what you are to pray.

First. That His Royal Highness may be protected from all his enemies, both at home and abroad. It is said His Royal Highness is going from home for two or three weeks. We should pray, therefore, that he may be protected from all who wish him hurt abroad. And you know a few months ago a person shot at His Royal Highness and the Queen, but it pleased God to protect them from the hand of this traitor. Then we should pray to God to continue his kindness and protection towards him.

Secondly. We should pray that His Royal Highness may be protected from other enemies-from flatterers. It is to be hoped that there are not many of this class in the court of England; but every court has some, and England, no doubt, amongst the rest; therefore we must pray to God that His Royal Highness may not be misled by them; and if we pray from the heart, he will profit by our prayer.

Thirdly.-That His Royal Highness may not be ruined by worldly pleasure. It is certainly more difficult to abstain from sinful worldly pleasure in the midst of a court, than away from it; but the Christian would rather do so, and is bound to do it. We should pray that the Prince and Queen may be kept from sinful pleasure.

Fourthly. That the Prince may zealously and stedfastly adhere to the cause of religion, setting a good example to all, and thus diffuse abroad through the kingdom that true religion which enlightens the soul, and tends to the interest of all.
