ALMIGHTY God, whose kingdom is everlasting, and power infinite; have mercy upon the whole Church, and so rule the heart of thy chosen servant Victoria, our Queen and governor, that she (knowing whose minister she is) may above all things seek thy honour and glory; and that we, and all her subjects (duly considering whose authority she hath), may faithfully serve, honour, and humbly obey her, in thee, and for thee, according to thy blessed word and ordinance ; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who with thee and the Holy Ghost liveth and reigneth, ever one God, world without end.

FOR THE ROYAL FAMILY.

ALMIGHTY God, the Fountain of all goodness, we humbly beseech thee to bless Adelaide the Queen-dowager, and all the royal

FOR THE HIGH COURT OF PARLIAMENT.
To be used during their Session.

MOST gracious God, we humbly beseech thee, as for this kingdom in general, so especially for the high court of Parliament, under our most religious and gracious Queen at this time assembled; that thou wouldest be pleased to direct and prosper all their consultations to the advancement of thy glory, the good of thy Church, the safety, honour, and welfare of our sovereign, and her dominions; that all things may be so ordered and settled by their endeavours upon the best and surest foundations, that peace and happiness, truth and justice, religion and piety, may be established among us for all generations. These and all other necessaries, for them, for us, and thy whole Church, we humbly beg in the name and mediation of Jesus Christ, our most blessed Lord and Saviour. Amen.

IN SICKNESS.

I.

[At the commencement of sickness.]

O HEAVENLY Father, who in thy wisdom knowest what is best for me, if it seem good in thy sight, remove this distemper from me, so that I may employ my health to thy glory, and praise thy name. But if thou art pleased that it should greatly increase, I willingly submit to thy afflicting hand; for thou art wont to chastise those whom thou dost love; and I am sure thou wilt lay no more on me than thou wilt enable me to bear.

I know, O my God, that thou sendest this sickness on me for my good, even to humble and to prove me ; 0, grant it may work that saving effect in me.

Lord, create in me a true penitent sorrow for all my sins past, a stedfast faith in thee, and sincere resolutions of amendment for the time to come.

Deliver me from all frowardness and impatience, and give me an entire resignation to thy divine will. O, suffer not the disease to take away my senses; and do thou continually supply me with devout and holy thoughts. Lord, bless all the means that are used for my recovery, and restore me to my health; but if otherwise thou hast appointed for me, thy blessed will be done.

O, wean my affections from all things below, and fill me with ardent desires after heaven. Lord, fit me for thyself; and at thine own good time bring me to joys unspeakable and full of glory. Grant this, for the sake of thy only Son Jesus, my Saviour. Amen.

BISHOP KEN.

[For a blessing on the use of medicine.] O MOST blessed and eternal Jesus, the great Physician of our souls, the Sun of righteousness arising with healing in thy wings, who disposest every great and little accident to the glory of God, and to the comfort of them that love and serve him, be pleased to bless the ministry of thy servant in order to mine ease and health; direct his judgment, prosper the medicines, and dispose the chances of my sickness fortunately, that I may feel the blessing and loving-kindness of the Lord in the ease or prevention of pain, and the restitution or preservation of health; and being restored to the society of the living and to thy solemn assemblies, I may praise thee and thy goodness secretly among the faithful, and in the congregation of the redeemed ones, here in the outer courts of the Lord, and hereafter in thine eternal temple. Amen.

BISHOP TAYLOR.

[Upon taking medicine.]

O LORD, the Father of mercies, and God of all consolation, our only help in time of need, I most humbly supplicate thy favour to thy faithful servant, lying under thy correction. Lay no more upon me than thou wilt enable me to bear. Consider my feeble mortal constitution, and proportion my distemper to my strength, that I may know how to bear it with a true Christian patience and resignation to thy divine will. Hear my

complaints, and remove the cause of them, as shall seem to thee most expedient for me. Give a blessing to what I now take, in order to recovery of my lost health. Be thou my chief Physician, for thy direction cannot fail me. And seeing I put my whole trust in thee, vouchsafe of thy great mercy to administer to me in my necessity, and to grant me ease, and comfort, and health here in this world; and fit me for everlasting life with thee, and thy holy angels and saints, in the world to come, through our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
