It is fo called from Yskaw, an Elder Tree, there being feveral growing where the Church is built. This Account is taken cut of a MS. of Edward Lhwyd of the Museum, Author of the Archæologia Britannica, who travelled through North Wales in 1698-9, now in the Bodleian Library, and who faw then forty-four growing in and near the Church Yard. D.-by Parry Feb He was born at Ruthin, Denbighshire in the First Gregorian Year (1583; 28;) being the Son of Godfrey Goodman, Gent. made Chorifter, afterwards Scholar of Westminster College, under Cambden, 1592, Scholar of Trinity College in Cambridge 1600, Rector of the First Portion of Llan-fannan 1603, Llan-dyffil 1607, Parfon of Stapleford Abbots in Effex 1607, Rector of the Second Portion of Llan-fannan 1615, Yfkeiviog 1616, Canon of Windfor 1617, inftalled Dean of Rochester, January 6, 1620, Rector of Llan-armon in Yale Sine Cure 1621, and at Length became Bishop of Glocefter 1625, with leave to hold his Canonry of Windfor, and the Rectory of West Ildefley in Commendam. In 1640 he diffented from the Canons, for which, after three Admonitions pronounced by Archbishop Laud to fubfcribe, he was imprisoned and thereupon accounted a Papift, and confequently deprived of his Bishopric. He died 19, of January 1655, a Papist, as appears by his Will, in which, "He profef❝fes and acknowledges the Church of "Rome to be the Mother Church." Richard Lloyd, D. D. Rector of Llan-uwchy-llyn, and Vicar of Machynlleth in 1602, of both which he was deprived. Vicar of Abergele 1611, of Gresford 1613, Rector of March-wiail 1614, actually created D. D. 1617, Vicar of Rhiwabon 1617 He died in 1642. Evan Lloyd, Vicar of Holywell 1635-by Bishop Barrow in Commendam; and afterwards, for the Repairs of the Cathedral, until Dr. South's Death, who was Rector of Llan-rhaider in Moch ŷ Nant; the Tithes of which were to be appropriated for that Purpose, inftead of this Sine Cure Rectory.
