1 By a basket of summer fruit is shewed the propinquity of Israel's end. 4 Oppression is reproved. 11 A famine of the word HUS hath the Lord God shewed unto me and behold a basket of summer fruit.

2 And he said, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A basket of summer fruit. Then said the LORD unto me, a The end is come upon my people of Israel; I will not again pass by them any more.

3 And the songs of the temple 2 shall be howlings in that day, saith the Lord Gon: there shall be many dead bodies in every place; they shall cast them forth 3 with silence. 4 Hear this, O ye that swallow up the needy, even to make the poor of the land to fail,

5 Saying, When will the moon be gone, that we may sell corn? and the sabbath, that we may set forth wheat, making the ephah small, and the shekel great, and falsifying the balances by deceit?

13 In that day shall the fair virgins and young men faint for thirst.

11 In the day that thou stoodest on the other side, in the day that the strangers 'carried away captive his forces, and foreigners entered into his gates, and cast lots upon Jerusalem, even thou wast as one of them.

CHAPTER IV.

1 Jonah, repining at God's mercy, 4 is reproved by the type of a gourd. UT it displeased Jonah exceedingly, and he was very angry. 2 And he prayed unto the LORD, and said, I pray thee, O LORD, was not this my saying, when I was yet before unto Tarshish: for I knew in my country? Therefore I a fed that thou art a gracious God, and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repentest thee of the evil.
