Abstract: This report includes an annually updated 5 year plan and progress reports by agencies of the federal government engaged in population research, family planning services, and related activities, and contains information on the work of the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, including biomedical research, behavioral sciences research, institutional development and coordination and communication; the Food and Drug Administration; and including the Health Services Administration, Health Care Financing Administration, Office of Human Development Services, and the Agency for International Development. Requirement: The Secretary of Health and Human Services, acting through the National Center for Health Statistics, shall submit to Congress on December 1, 1980, and on December 1 of every third year thereafter, a national disease prevention data profile in order to provide a data base for the effective implementation of this act and to increase public awareness of the prevalence, incidence, and any trends in the preventable causes of death and disability in the United States. Such profile shall include at a minimum: mortality rates for preventable diseases; morbidity rates associated with preventable diseases; the physical determinants of health of the population of the United States and the relationship between these determinants of health and the incidence and prevalence of preventable causes of death and disability; and the behavioral determinants of health of the population of the United States including, but not limited to, smoking, nutritional and dietary habits, exercise, and alcohol consumption, and the relationship between these determinants of health and the incidence and prevalence of preventable causes of death and disability. Abstract: A national disease prevention data profile is designed to provide a data base for the effective implementation of this act and to increase public awareness of prevalence, incidence, and any trends in the preventable causes of death and disability in the United States.

the House of Representatives on information for the fiscal year on the
number of grants made for the specific study of sudden infant death
syndrome. The report shall give the number of grant applications ap-

study of infant death syndrome and causes of the syndrome. The report
shall contain a summary of the findings of intramural and extramural re-

Secretary of Health and Human Services shall report to specified Com-
mittees of the Congress the number of research grants and contracts,

Requirement: The Secretary of Health and Human Services shall submit annual reports to the Congress evaluating demonstration projects relating to training of home health aides. Abstract: The Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services will report to Congress on the steps taken by January 1, 1982, to enter into agreements with states to train recipients of Aid to Families with Dependent Children as homemakers/home health aides under demonstration projects. A general description of each of these agreements entered into by that date and a timetable for entering any other such agreements will be provided.

Requirement: Per centum reductions shall not apply to a state for any quarter with respect to which the Secretary of Health and Human Services determines that such state is unable to comply with the relevant requirements for developing a mechanized claims processing and information retrieval system: for good cause (but such a waiver may not be for a period in excess of 2 quarters), or due to circumstances beyond the control of such state. If the Secretary determines that such a reduction will not apply to a state, he shall report to the Congress on the basis for each such determination and on the modification of all time limitations and deadlines. Abstract: Under the provisions of title IX of Public Law 96-398, the Department of Health and Human Services is required to report to the Congress any waivers granted to states whereby a percentum reduction would not apply and reflect in the report the basis for each such determination and on the modifications of all time limitations and deadlines as described in the law.
