Amen. A [FIRST WEEK.] LMIGHTY GOD, who hast brought us in safety to the end of another day, grant us grace to approach Thee with adoring gratitude and devout penitence. While we bless thee for countless mercies, we deplore before Thee our grievous sins. Give unto us such true understanding of Thy Gospel, that we may seek and find our Saviour as our Prophet, Priest, and King. Thou, who didst come to save Thy people from their sins, save us, we beseech Thee, alike from their guilt and their power. May we be very anxious to do all that we can to persuade others to walk in the way of peace and holiness. To this end enable us, we implore Thee, to speak to them good words and comfortable words. Thou hast taught us that out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh: grant us hearts full of love to Thee, from which profitable words may come. Keep far from us foolish talking and unsuitable jesting, and may our words be always pure. Bless abundantly all efforts to bring up young children in the faith of Christ. Especially be very gracious to those who feed and instruct the neglected children in our very streets, and add greatly to the number of such faithful servants of the Saviour.
