(1) The Labour of the Husbandman will not be effectual to pro duce the Fruits of the Earth, without the Bleffing of God; neither will the Preaching of the Gospel be effectual for the Converfion and Salvation of Men, without the fame Bleffing. But this notwith ftanding, the Labour of the Husbandman, and of the Preacher, and Hearers too, is neceflary, otherwife there will be no increafe. Such Expreffions therefore, are not to be understood, as if God was to do all, and we to do nothing; but they are to be taken in a comparative Senfe; That is, what we do, is nothing in comparison of what God does, who bleffes our Labours, making the Plants to grow, and the Earth to yield her increafe. If we ufe our own fincere an and boneft Endeavours, we may be affured, that God will not be wanting on his part; but if we neglect this, we shall undoubtedly mifs of his Bleffing.
