COUNCIL JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 2.

Relating to the death of Gen. Logan.

Joint Resolution of the Legislative Assembly of the Territory of New Mexico:

Resolved: by the council and house of representatives of the legislative assembly of the territory of New Mexico, that: with profound sorrow this assembly has received the sad intelligence of the death of General John A. Logan, a senator of the United States, which occurred at the city of Washington, on the 26th instant, and this assembly, in the name of the people of the territory, takes mournful pleasure in paying a last sad tribute to his memory.

The distinguished dead had been prominently connected with the civil and military service of the country for more than a third of a century: As a member of the legislature of his own state, of both houses of congress and in other responsible positions in civil life, his name and career are familiar to every American: While in the military service of the country, in the time of the nation's peril, he was equally distinguished.

A true American, an able statesman, a distinguished soldier, a patriotic citizen, an honest man, are terms which fairly describe the character and career of the deceased.

He was always equal in capacity to the position in which he was placed. He was true to his convictions, faithful to his country and his friends, frank manly and courageous.

New Mexico had reason to regard him as especially her friend, and her people are united in mourning his death.

Resolved: that this assembly, representing all the people of the territory, tenders to the bereaved family of the deceased the most earnest sympathy in their great bereave

ment.

Approved January 4, 1887.
