The first, containing what the Bible says about prayer, is intended to show the way of access to God so plainly that wayfaring men, though fools, shall not err therein.'
The second part consists of prayers to The Most High, in the language of Scripture; prayers which, being founded on His word, are, I humbly believe, agreeable to His will, and therefore will be heard and graciously answered by Him, if offered in humility, sincerity, and faith.
The third part contains a carefully arranged selection of the devotional parts of the Psalms, apportioned for daily reading, and so printed, as not only to bring into greater prominence the parallelisms which form the chief characteristic of Hebrew poetry, but also to make the beauty and the solemnity of the sacred thoughts more impressive.
The fourth part of the little book is a collection of God's 'exceeding great and precious promises,' assuring the soul that its best desires shall all be fulfilled.
