PROSPERITY AND ADVERSITY. I O LORD! how tender is thy love, Hence, all her fears my soul derives, II Thou showr'st the manna from above, Thou bid'st distress forget to groan, IV Thy vengeance rides the rushing wind, V Oh! grant, with ever grateful heart TRUST IN GOD UNDER AFFLICTION. I O GOD! the cov❜nant of thy love We in its matchless mercy feel What though we want the health or ease To nobler joys than nature gives, III Since thou, the everlasting GOD! And in the gospel bid'st us hope IV We welcome all thy sov'reign will; And, when we do not know thy law, Thy mercy, in the darkest gloom And, when our eye-lids close in death, CHRISTIAN FORTITUDE. I TAKE Courage now, while GOD is near; II Though thickest dangers crowd our way, III Though billows after billows roll, IV In life, his presence is our aid; And turn our darkness into day. RESIGNATION IN AFFLICTION. I NAKED, as from the earth we came, The dear delights we here enjoy, Are but short pleasures borrow'd now, III 'Tis GOD bestows our greatest joys, Or sinks them in the grave; He gives, and, blessed be his name! He takes but what he IV gave. Peace, then, ye restless passions, peace! Let each repining sigh Be silent at his sov'reign will; PEACE, my complaining, doubting heart!
