bulk of those changes which are, not steps, but bounds, towards the age of Millennial rest, bliss, and glory! The hand of God is doubtless in the whole, and his wisdom, which erreth not, will overrule all to his own honour; but we look upon the stupendous and unexampled changes which are now passing before our eyes, only as a means to an end-the establishment of the kingdom of God among men. The liberty where with the subjects of that kingdom are made free, can alone procure and preserve the freedom of States. Where this precedes, in full power, civil liberty is sure to follow; and where the latter precedes, the former is indispensable to perfect and conserve it. On these grounds infinite importance attaches to the seeding of the mind of the Millions with Gospel truth; and hence we magnify our office, and rejoice in the exercise of functions so richly fraught with peace on earth and goodwill towards men.
The Fund so wisely and so generously projected by the Rev. James Sherman, for the gratuitous distribution of this Miscellany, demands special notice, as having been attended with complete success, and as having enabled us to shower lessons of wisdom on many a region, which, but for this, must have remained in ignorance. To all our friends who have so munificently aided in this enterprise, we tender most cordial thanks: they have been "fellow-helpers to the truth." In addition to those copies which have been and are still to be distributed in the dark places of our native land, a large number have been sent to some of the Colonies, by the hands of godly persons emigrating thither. To our Fund contributors, to all who have otherwise assisted in promoting our circulation, and last, but not least, to our Correspondents, whose labours have so much contributed to enrich and adorn our pages, we tender our most grateful acknowledgments, with the hope of their continued, and, if possible, increased assistance in this our endeavour to promote the highest interests of mankind.
