PSALM CVII.

"SING praises unto JEHOVAH, because He is good"Because His loving-kindness endureth for ever!"

2 Thus let the redeemed of JEHOVAH say

Those, whom He hath redeemed

From the hand of their enemies,

3 And gathered together from different landsFrom the east and from the west,

From the north and from the south!

4 They wandered in the wilderness, even in the desert; They found not the way to cities where they might dwell. 5 Hungry and thirsty,

Their spirit within them fainted.

6 When they cried aloud unto JEHOVAH in their strait, HE delivered them out of their distresses;

7 And He led them, by a direct way,

So that they came unto cities where they might dwell.

Let praises be sung unto JEHOVAH for His loving-kindness,

And His wonders towards the children of men!

9 For He hath fed the hungry to the full,

And the famished He hath filled with good things.

10 Those, who were dwelling in the dark shadow of death, Bound with galling chains,

11 Because they had rebelled against the commands of God, And had contemned the counsel of the most High

[blocks in formation]

12 Those, whose hearts He had bowed down by troubleWho had stumbled, and there was no helper

13 When they cried aloud unto JEHOVAH in their strait, HE saved them out of their distresses.

14 HE brought them forth out of the dark shadow of death, And burst asunder their bonds.

15 Let praises be sung unto JEHOVAH for His loving-kindness, And His wonders towards the children of men!

16 For He hath broken in pieces the gates of brass, And cleft asunder the bars of iron.

17 The wicked, who, by reason of their evil course, And owing to their iniquities, were afflicted—

18 Whose appetite loathed all food,

And who were close unto the gates of death—

19 When they cried aloud unto JEHOVAH in their strait, HE saved them out of their distresses.

20 HE sent forth His command, and healed them,

And rescued them from destruction.

21 Let praises be sung unto JEHOVAH for His loving-kindness, And His wonders towards the children of men!

22 Yea, let sacrifices of thanksgiving be offered, And let His works be recounted in song.

23 Those, who go upon the sea in ships-
Whose occupation is upon the mighty waters-

24 They behold the works of JEHOVAH,

And His wonders in the deep.

25 For He giveth command, and raiseth the stormy wind, Which lifteth high its waves.

26 They ascend to the heavens, they go down into the depths! Their hearts melt away because of their calamity;

27 They reel and stagger, like a drunken man,

And all their skill faileth.

28 When they cry aloud unto JEHOVAH in their strait, HE bringeth them out of their distresses.

29 HE composeth the stormy wind into a gentle breeze, So that the waves of the sea are hushed.

30 Then they rejoice, because they have subsided,

And He guideth them to the haven, which they desired.

31 Let praises be sung unto JEHOVAH for His loving-kindness, And His wonders towards the children of men!

32 Yea, let Him be extolled in the assembly of the people, And be praised in the council of the elders.

33 HE turneth rivers into a desert,

And springs of water into a parched land

34 A fruitful land into barrenness,

For the wickedness of those who dwell therein.

35 HE turneth a desert into a pool of water,
And a thirsty land into springs of water;
36 And He causeth the hungry to dwell therein;
Yea, they establish cities as their dwelling places,
37 And sow fields and plant vineyards,

Which yield fruit of increase.

33 HE blesseth them, so that they multiply exceedingly, And He suffereth not their cattle to decrease.

39 When they are reduced and brought low, From grievous oppression and affliction;

40 HE poureth out contempt upon princes,

And causeth them to wander in the pathless wilderness; 41 But the poor He raiseth from their misery,

And increaseth their families, like a flock of sheep.

42 The upright shall see this, and rejoice, And all iniquity shall close her mouth.

43 Who is wise? For he will observe these things, And discern the loving-kindnesses of JEHOVAH!

PSALM CVIII.

1 O GOD, my heart is prepared!

I will sing and I will hymn.
My soul also is prepared!

2 Awake, O lute and harp!

I will awake with the early dawn.

3 I will praise Thee, O JEHOVAH, among the nations, And I will hymn Thee among the people;

4 For great, above the heavens, is Thy loving-kindness, And Thy faithfulness reacheth unto the clouds.

5 Be Thou exalted above the heavens, O God, And Thy glory, over all the earth.

6 That Thy beloved ones may be delivered,
Save us with Thy right hand, and answer us!
7 God hath spoken by His holiness!

Triumphantly shall I portion out Shechem,
And measure the valley of Succoth.

8 Gilead is with me, Manasseh is with me,
Ephraim also is the defender of my life,
Judah is my law-giver.

› Moab shall hold the basin in which I wash, To Edom will I throw my shoes;

Over Philistia will I raise the shout of triumph.

10 Who will bring me to the fortified city?

Who will guide me unto Edom?

Hast not Thou, O God, rejected us?

Yea Thou, O God, goest not forth with our armies!

12 Give unto us relief from our distress,

For vain is the help of man.

13 Through God shall we perform deeds of valour, And it is He who shall tread down our enemies.
