History of Civilization.

BY AMOS DEAN, LL. D.,

Late Professor in the Albany Law School. 1st vol. 8vo, cloth, 720 pp. $4.00.

JOEL MUNSELL, Albany, N. Y.

This extensive work, complete in 7 vols., is the result of more than thirty years of careful and thorough research. It is a complete history of man as unfolded in his civilizations.

The six elements that constitute civilization-viz: Industry, Religion, Government, Society, Philosophy and Art-are unfolded in the History of the Nations of Antiquity and of Modern Europe, showing what each Nation and Era have contributed to the development of each of these departments.

The first volume of this work is now offered to the public. It first treats of the distribution of races; and then of the elements of civilization, as developed by the nomadic and settled races, the Scythians, Huns, Turks, Mongoles and Tartars; then in Chaldæ, Assyria, Babylonia, Medo-Persia, Egypt, Arabia, Palestine, Phenicia, Syria and Asia Minor; thus embracing the important eras and nations previous to the Grecian period. The remaining six volumes will treat successively of the civilizations of Greece and Rome, and the nations of modern Europe; and will be issued at intervals of three months. It contains a vast fund of information, culled from the highest authorities, clearly, concisely and truthfully stated. On account of its thoroughness, it com

mends itself to every student, while no one, who desires a universal history, should be without it.

The work is issued by Joel Munsell, of Albany, N. Y., is printed in large type, on heavy tinted paper, with the authorities cited in foot-notes, and is substantially bound, As the edition is limited, those desiring the work should send for it at once.
