ANIMALS,

ALPHABETICALLY ARRANGED,

BY

JULIA MARIA HUYSHE.

LONDON:

GRANT AND GRIFFITH,

(SUCCESSORS TO NEWBERY AND HARRIS,)

CORNER OF ST. PAUL'S CHURCH YARD.

1855.

TO THE RIGHT HONORABLE THE

LADY ROBERT KERR.

Dear Lady Robert,

This little Volume, which you have so kindly allowed me to dedicate to you, for your grand-children, was originally written in India to amuse and instruct my own little boy, and I trust it may prove equally interesting to those for whom it is now revised and published in England.

In this hope I subscribe myself, with sincere

esteem,

Your Ladyship's

Gratefully obliged,

JULIA MARIA HUYSHE.

Exeter, May 10th, 1855.

BIBLE STORIES.

Wentworth. In all my books about animals there are no pretty stories about them that I can read on Sundays. Will you tell me some, Mamma?

Mamma. I think the Bible mentions something which you would like to hear about almost every animal, so I will try and tell you what is told in it, so as to make you understand, and we will begin our stories in the order of the alphabet, taking the first animal whose name begins with A, then B, and so on. Now what shall our first story be about?

Wentworth. A begins Ass; so please tell me of the poor little stupid Ass.
