8f This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable

9 But avoid foolish questions, and igenealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain.

10 A man that is an 'heretick after the first and second admonition reject;

11 Knowing that he that is such is subverted, and sinneth, being condemned of himself.

12 When I shall send Artemas unto thee, or "Tychicus, be diligent to come unto me to Nicopolis: for I have determined there to winter.

13 Bring Zenas 'the lawyer and 'Apollos on their journey diligently, that nothing be wanting unto them.

It was written to Titus, ordained the first bishop of the church of the Cretians, from Nicopolis of Macedonia.

11 Which in time past was to thee unprofitable, but now profitable to thee and to me:

12 Whom I have sent again: thou therefore receive him, that is, mine own bowels:

13 Whom I would have retained with me, that in thy stead he might have ministered unto me in the bonds of the gospel:

14 But without thy mind would I do nothing; that thy benefit should not be as it were of necessity, but willingly.

15 For perhaps he therefore departed for a season, that thou shouldest receive him for ever;

CHAPTER 2

THEREFORE we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should 1 let them slip.

2 For if the word spoken by angels was stedfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompence of reward;

3 How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which" at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him; 4 God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and 2gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will?

5 For "unto the angels hath he not put in subjection the world to come, whereof we speak.

6 But one in a certain place testified, saying, What is man, that thou art mindful of him? or the son of man, that thou visitest him?

7 Thou madest him a little 5 lower than' the angels; thou crownedst him with glory and honour, and didst set him over the works of thy hands:

8 "Thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that he put all in subjection under him, he left nothing that is not put under him. But now we see not yet all things put under him.

11 And we desire that every one of you do shew the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end:
