ceived the fanction of every Captain..

He draws all the pay of the Regiment (except that of the Officers), and he must be extremely particular in keeping his accounts in the molt clear and accurate manner.

He must keep a book to enter all orders that come to the Regiment relative to his department.

He must book in the moft regular manner the two-monthly regimental abstracts, the troop abftracts, diftributions, the half-yearly accounts, and the returns of escorts and bread-money; in fhort, every money tranfaction that he has on account of the Regiment with the Agents: and when a Pay Mafter gives up his Pay Mafterfhip, or quits the Regiment, the Commanding Officer for the time being muft take care that his books are left with the Pay Mafter that fucceeds him. They are, in fact, regimental not private books, and are always to remain with the Regiment, whether the accounts they contain have been fettled or not; of course he may take a copy of them with him, if he chufes.

When the Clerks meet the Pay Mafter at Head Quarters, on the 24th of every fettling month, he must compare his books with the Adjutant's regifter, and memorandum-books, in order to ascertain that all the broken periods of the preceding two months tally in both. At this comparison the Officer commanding the Regiment will attend, when the Pay Master's books must be ready for the faid Commanding Officer's infpection.

The Pay Master is not to admit any charge from the Clerks against the Colonel, without the tradesmen's bills

being produced to him, with receipts to them, figned by the tradefmen, and the bill certified to be just under the hand of the Officer commanding the troop. The Pay Mafter muft pay particular attention to the amount of their contingent bills, forming a judgment of them by a comparison with thofe paft; and if he thinks that any of them are too high, he must report it to the Officer commanding the Regiment: for, though the Colonel is perfectly inclined to be quite liberal towards his Regiment, it is the duty of the Commanding Officer to prevent any waste or want of œconomy, or any improper charge being made against him.

HE Riding Mafter is the refponfible perfon to the Commanding Officer for the breaking of the re-mount horfes, and inftructing the young Officers and Recruits in riding, and drilling them on horfeback. He must inform himself of course in every particular of the Standing Orders of the Regiment, because he will always be acting in a double capacity; for no person will be allowed to act as Riding Mafter to the Regiment, who does not hold a Commiflion or Warrant in it.

He is to receive Seven Guineas for teaching an Officer to ride, and breaking his horfe: for breaking a horfe, without teaching to ride, he is to receive Two Guineas.

He muft abfolutely take the greatest pains with the inftruction of young Officers, and, indeed, all the Officers who attend the riding-school; because it is full as effential for the difcipline of the Regiment that the Officers should ride perfectly well, as that the men fhould.

He must adhere clofely to the inftructions for the ridingfchool, and horfe drills, which are in the Standing Orders, and to the principles there laid down.
