COME, let us anew our journey pursue,

Roll round with the year,

And never stand still till the Master appear.
His adorable will let us gladly fulfil,
And our talents improve,

The arrow is flown,-the moment is gone; The millennial year

Rushes on to our view, and eternity's here. 3 O, that each in the day of His coming may "I have fought my way through:

[say,

By the patience of hope, and the labor of I have finished the work Thou didst give me love.

2 Our life is a dream; our time, as a stream, Glides swiftly away,

And the fugitive moment refuses to stay. FESTUS L. M.

to do!"

[glad word,

O, that each from his Lord may receive the "Well and faithfully done! [throne!" Enter into my joy, and sit down on my Charles Wesley 1749 From a German Choral

881

GREAT God, we sing that mighty hand,
By which supported still we stand:
The opening year Thy mercy shows;
Let mercy crown it till it close.

2 By day, by night, at home, abroad,
Still we are guarded by our God;
By His incessant bounty fed,
By His unerring counsel led.

3 With grateful hearts the past we own;
The future, all to us unknown,
We to Thy guardian care commit,
And peaceful leave before Thy feet.
4 In scenes exalted or depressed,
Be Thou our joy, and Thou our rest;
Thy goodness all our hopes shall raise,
Adored through all our changing days.

SUMMER Suns are glowing
Over land and sea,

Happy light is flowing
Bountiful and free.
Every thing rejoices

In the mellow rays,
All earth's thousand voices
Swell the psalm of praise.
2 God's free mercy streameth
Over all the world,
And His banner gleameth
Everywhere unfurled.
Broad and deep and glorious
As the heaven above,
Shines in might victorious
His eternal Love.

ST. GEORGE'S 7s. D.

3 Lord, upon our blindness,
Thy pure radiance pour;
For Thy loving-kindness

Make us love Thee more.
And when clouds are drifting
Dark across our sky.
Then, the veil uplifting,
Father, be Thou nigh.

4 We will never doubt Thee,
Though Thou veil Thy light:
Life is dark without Thee;
Death with Thee is bright.
Light of light! Shine o'er us
On our pilgrim way,
Go Thou still before us
To the endless day.

William Walsham How 1864

COME, ye thankful people, come,
Raise the song of Harvest-home!
All is safely gathered in,
Ere the winter storms begin;
God our Maker doth provide
For our wants to be supplied:
Come to God's own temple, come:
Raise the song of Harvest-home!
2 All the world is God's own field,
Fruit unto His praise to yield;
Wheat and tares together sown,
Unto joy or sorrow grown:
First the blade, and then the ear,
Then the full corn shall appear:
Lord of Harvest, grant that we
Wholesome grain and pure may be!

4 Thy hand in autumn richly pours
Through all our coasts redundant stores;
And winters, softened by Thy care,
No more a face of horror wear.

5 Seasons, and months, and weeks, and days,
Demand successive songs of praise;
And be the grateful homage paid,
With morning light and evening shade.
6 Here in Thy house let incense rise,
And circling Sabbaths bless our eyes;
Till to those lofty heights we soar,
Where days and years revolve no more.
Philip Doddridge 174

3 For the Lord our God shall come,
And shall take His harvest home;
From His field shall in that day
All offences purge away;
Give His angels charge at last
In the fire the tares to cast;
But the fruitful ears to store
In His garner evermore.

4 Even so, Lord, quickly come
To Thy final Harvest-home!
Gather Thou Thy people in
Free from sorrow, free from sin:
There, forever purified,
In Thy presence to abide:
Come, with all Thine angels, come:
Raise the glorious Harvest-home!

Henry Alford 1844
