This is the bread which the Lord hath given you to eat. -Ex. 16:15.

ост.

THE UNREGENERATE NATURE

1

Woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye love the uppermost seats in Luke the synagogues, and greetings in the markets.

11:43

2

Woe unto you scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye
are as graves which appear not, and the men that walk over
them are not aware of them.

Luke

11:44

Woe unto you also, ye lawyers! for ye lade men with burdens
grievous to be borne, and ye yourselves touch not the bur-
dens with one of your fingers.

Woe unto you! for ye build the sepulchres of the prophets, and
our fathers killed them.
Truly ye bear witness that ye allow the deeds of your fathers:
for they indeed killed them, and ye build their sepulchres.

Therefore also said the wisdom of God, I will send them
prophets and apostles, and some of them they shall slay and
persecute:

Luke

6

Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if
the mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon, which
have been done in you, they had a great while ago repented, 10:13
sitting in sackcloth and ashes.

Luke

But it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the
judgment. than for you.

Luke

10:14,

7

And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted to heaven, shalt
be thrust down to hell.

15

Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.

-I Cor. 10:31.

Bread which strengtheneth man's heart.

FEW READY

-Ps. 104:15.

Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter Matt. into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

7:21

Ye will surely say unto me this proverb, Physician, heal thyLuke self: whatsoever we have heard done in Capernaum, do also here in thy country. Verily I say unto you, No prophet is accepted in his own country.

Mark And have ye not read this scripture: The stone which the 12:10, builders rejected is become the head of the corner: This 11 was the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?

Luke

O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets 24:25 have spoken!

Luke

4:27

And many lepers were in Israel in the time of Eliseus the
prophet; and none of them was cleansed, saving Naaman
the Syrian.

12

Whereunto then shall I liken the men of this generation? and to what are they like? They are like unto children sitting in the Luke market-place, and calling one to another, and saying, We have piped 7:31, 32 unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned to you, and ye have not wept.

An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; but 12:39 there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Mark Jonas.

10:31 But many that are first shall be last; and the last first.

Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labor for that which satisfieth not? hearken diligently unto me and eat ye that which is good.

-Is. 55:2.

We are all partakers of that one bread.

THE LAW AND GRACE

-1 Cor. 10:17.

Whose is this image and superscription?

15 Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's.

Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy 16 shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.

17

18

Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men
and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme: But he
that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness,
but is in danger of eternal damnation :

The Son of man is come eating and drinking; and ye say,
Behold a gluttonous man, and a winebibber, a friend of
publicans and sinners!

Have ye never read what David did, when he had need, and was an hungred, he, and they that were with him? How he went into the 19 house of God in the days of Abiathar the high priest, and did eat the shewbread, which is not lawful to eat but for the priests, and gave also to them which were with him?

The law and the prophets were until John: since that time 20 the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presseth into it.

21

No man also seweth a piece of new cloth on an old garment; else the
new piece that filled it up taketh away from the old, and the rent is
made worse.
And no man putteth new wine into old bottles: else the
new wine doth burst the bottles, and the wine is spilled, and the
bottles will be marred: but new wine must be put into new bottles.

ERRORS IN JUDGMENT

-Rev. 2:7.

But ye say, Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother,
It is a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me;

[blocks in formation]

But ye say, If a man shall say to his father or mother, It is Corban, that is to say, a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest 23 be profited by me; he shall be free.

And honor not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus
have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your
tradition.

And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of
righteousness, and of judgment.

24

Matt. I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye 25 25:43 clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.

Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we Matt. thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, 26 or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?

25:44

Matt. And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but 25:46 the righteous into life eternal.

27

When ye see a cloud rise out of the west, straightway ye say, Luke There cometh a shower; and so it is, And when ye see the south 12:54, wind blow, ye say, There will be heat; and it cometh to pass. Ye 28 55, 56 hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky and of the earth; but how is it that ye do not discern this time?

And Melchizedek, king of Salem, brought forth bread and wine: and he was a priest of the most high God. Thou art a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.

-Gen. 14:18, Ps. 110:4.

For if they do these things in a green tree, what shall be Luke done in the dry?

And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of
the Son of man. They did eat, they drank, they married wives,
they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into
the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all.

Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they
drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded;
But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire
and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all.

Now learn a parable of the fig tree: When his branch is yet tender,
and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh:
So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is
near, even at the doors.
