FOR NEW YEAR'S DAY.

ALMIGHTY and most merciful Father, of whose goodness it is, that we are preserved to see the commencement of another year; and are permitted to fall down and worship at thy footstool. We raise our hearts in fervent praise, that our lives are still continued.

We acknowledge, with deep shame and contrition, that we have hitherto been but as cumberers of the ground; and that thou mightst

justly have cut us down, or removed thy favours from us. Blessed be thy name, thou still rememberest us in mercy, and delightest to do us good.

Many who were in health, at the beginning of the last year, have been called into eternity, while we are spared. May we feel, that in the midst of life, we are in death; and so number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom. Grant that we may give up our hearts to thee this day, and choose thee for our present and eternal portion. Create us anew in Christ Jesus, to good works; and may we put on the new man, and become new creatures. Cleanse us from all

our sins by the blood of Christ, and make us pure; and may we seek to perfect holiness in thy fear. Grant that we may be no longer careful and troubled about many things, but may we seek that one thing which is needful, that we may enjoy thy favour.

We thank thee unfeignedly, O Lord, that thou hast brought us to the beginning of this year, in safety and peace. We thank thee, that our health, our comforts, and our friends are continued to us; and that we are in the possession of all the spiritual blessings we now enjoy. We pray thee still to continue them, and grant that our lives may testify our gratitude, by being

devoted to thy service. If thou shalt spare our lives to the conclusion of the year, do thou support us in its trials, that we sin not against thee; and preserve us in its enjoyments, that we may not forget thee. But if thou shalt be pleased to remove any of us, may we be prepared for the eternal rest, which thou hast provided for those that love thee, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

FOR ASH WEDNESDAY.

"O LORD, we beseech thee, mercifully to hear our prayers, and spare all those who confess their sins unto thee; that they, whose consciences by sin are accused, by thy merciful pardon may be absolved; through Jesus Christ our Lord." Amen.
