THURSDAY MORNING.

O ALMIGHTY GOD, in whom we live, and move, and have our being; thou art every where present, and thine eyes behold the children of men. Enable us not only to lay our wants before: thee, but to thank thee for thy mercies, and to supplicate a continuance of thy favours, through Jesus Christ.

We are utterly unworthy of the least of thy mercies, for we have grievously sinned against thee. Our

transgressions are great and aggravated. We have sinned against light and knowledge, wilfully and deliberately, in thought, word, and deed. Grant to us that godly sorrow, which worketh repentance to salvation, not to be repented of. We come to thee, in the name of thy beloved Son, and plead his merits and death, as our only hope. He satisfied the demands of thy law, and hath opened a way into the holiest of holies by his own blood; therefore, thou canst now be just, and the justifier of him that believeth in Jesus.

Lord, pardon our iniquity, and pass by our transgressions for thy dear Son's sake. Look upon the face of

thine anointed, and turn away the fierceness of thine anger that we perish not. Lift up the light of thy countenance upon us, and put gladness into our heart, more than those whose corn, and wine, and oil are increased. Grant that we may be justified by faith, and have peace with God; and may the blood of Christ cleanse us from all sin.

O merciful and gracious Father, we thank thee for the many mercies which thou hast continued to us through the night, and art renewing with the return of the day. Thou hast preserved us from the dangers which have surrounded us, and hast suffered no evil to befal us. Thou hast refreshed us with

in

sleep, and hast raised us up health and peace. Bless the Lord, O our souls.

As thou hast been about our bed by night, so be thou about our path by day. Guide us, we beseech

thee, in the way that we should go, and bring us to the close of this day in peace with thee, and with all mankind. Deliver us from the evils and calamities to which we are exposed, and grant us whatever we need for this life, and for that which is to come. We are weak and helpless, do thou strengthen us by thy Spirit's might in the inner man. Cleanse us from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, that we

May our

whole spirit, and soul, and body, be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Keep us humble, and dependent upon thee, for all we need; and may our life and conversation be such as becometh the Gospel of Christ. Enable us to discharge the duties of our stations with faithfulness, both to superiors and inferiors. Grant that the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eye, and the pride of life, may be put away from us, with all malice. May we give all diligence to add to our faith virtue, and to virtue knowledge, and to knowledge temperance, and to temperance patience, and to patience godliness, and to godliness
