of Christ's Church, and an inheritor of the Kingdom. Remember that privileges alone will not save; you must live up to them. The fact of your trying to do so will make your enemies more on the alert. They are ever on the watch to tempt: they are strong and full of malice.

The World.-It hems us in on every side. Do you suffer yourself to be guided by its rules? Are you led by worldly frivolous persons ? Do you fear the frown of the World? Do you seek its praise? Remember, you love the world, the love of the Father is not in you.

The Flesh. It is ever with you; you cannot fly from it, or drive it from you. It is ever tempting you to yield to self-indulgence, to sloth, to intemperance. Try to keep your body in subjection, lest it get the dominion over you?

The Devil.-He is the most subtle of all your enemies. He lays his snares on every side. We cannot fly

from him, but by God's help we can resist him, and then he will flee from us. Are you resisting Satan?

Learn to distrust yourself, your own skill, wisdom, and power, among so many and such watchful foes.

Resolve to resist in the power of God and in the strength that He will give. Pray that God will ever be your defence against all your enemies.

Thank Him for any victories which by His help you have been able to gain, and praise Him for His great goodness.

At the close of each meditation you may use this

SHORT PRAYER.

LORD, grant me grace and strength

to keep my resolutions. If I should fail, give me such sorrow for my sins as shall enable me to use all necessary means, however bitter, for rooting sin out of my soul. When I gain any victories, make me thankful, and teach me to ascribe all the glory to Thee, for Jesus' sake. Amen.

You have now formed the good resolution, and have ratified the first vow to renounce your spiritual enemies. You refuse henceforth to follow or be led by them.

2. Now consider the second part of the vow made for you at your Baptism. You must "believe all the articles of the Christian faith; " that is, you must believe all that a Christian ought to believe if he is to be saved. Without believing you cannot go to Heaven. (St. Mark xvi. 16.) All that is necessary for us to believe is briefly summed up in the Creed, or Belief. It is not possible in a little work like this to examine every article of the Creed separately. You have learnt it by heart, but that is not sufficient. You must now try to understand the meaning of every section. Make each article a subject for meditation, praying God to open your heart to receive and believe the truth.

I BELIEVE IN GOD. I believe that

He loves me, that He cares for me, that He will help me, and, if I love and serve Him, will with Him for ever.

bring me to live Now why do we feel this confidence in God? Because He has revealed Himself to us as our Father. The Father loves His child. But He is also "the Almighty," the "maker of Heaven and earth;" and, therefore, has the power to help His child.

His death was a sacrifice made for us for the remission of our sins in obedience to His Father's will. His Body was laid in the grave, His Soul descended into Hades. On the third day He rose again from the dead, He ascended into Heaven, and there sits at the right hand of God interceding for us. He shall return again. He shall return in glory. Now He is willing to be our Saviour. Then He shall be our Judge.

I BELIEVE IN THE HOLY GHOST. I believe in Him as a person in the Godhead. I believe that He is one and the same God with the Father and the Son. I believe in Him as the Comforter Who is to abide in the Church, dwelling in the hearts of men. believe in Him as the Sanctifier of all the elect people of God. He sanctifies us by:

THE HOLY CATHOLIC CHURCH, which the Apostles began to build on Jesus Christ as the foundation, by the aid and guidance of the Spirit of God. Because the Holy Spirit dwells in the Church, it is "Holy." It is "Catholic" because it is intended to embrace all nations and all people, of whatever age, or clime, or race. Christ Himself has told us that it shall grow and increase till it has spread over the whole earth. Into this "Holy Catholic Church," you have been admitted by the Holy Ghost in Baptism. It is therefore possible for you to enjoy
