God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit p Ps. 16, 8. of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise g1 Kings up Christ to sit on his throne; 2, 10. r 2 Sam. 7, 8 hour. & 2, 1. & 6, ver. 1, 42. h ch. 4, 35. & 5, 14 & 11, 24. temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth 2 And a certain man, lame from his mother's verse 4. womb, was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate a Luke 24, of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the temple; 3 Who seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, asked an alms. 4 And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him, with John, said, Look on us. 5 Ánd he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something of them. 6 Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk. 7 And he took him by the right hand, and lifted 32 This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we Mat. 22, 43. all are witnesses. 11 And, as the lame man which was healed held Peter and John, all the people ran together unto 2, 17. 36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know assu-them, in the porch that is called Solomon's, greatly Luke 24, redly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye John 14, 16, have crucified, both Lord and Christ. 12 ¶ And when Peter saw it, he answered unto John 7, 39. the people, Ye men of Israel, why marvel ye at this? 18, 30. & 19, or why look ye so earnestly on us, as though by our chap. 4, 23 own power or holiness we had made this man to walk? 4, 5, 50. & 13The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, hath glorified his Son Jesus; whom ye delivered up, and denied him in the presence of Pilate, when he was determined to let him go. 14 But ye denied the Holy One and the Just, and desired a murderer to be granted unto you; 15h And killed the Prince of life, whom God hath raised from the dead; whereof we are witnesses. 16 And his name, through faith in his name, hath made this man strong, whom ye see and know; yea, the faith which is by him hath given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all. i 17 And now, brethren, I wot that through ignorance ye did it, as did also your rulers. 18 But those things, which God before had shewed by the mouth of all his prophets, that Christ should suffer, he hath so fulfilled. m 7, 52. The unity of the church, &c. 22 P For Moses truly said unto the fathers, A Pro-ple, let us straitly threaten them, that they speak phet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of henceforth to no man in this name. your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear in all things, whatsoever he shall say unto you. 23 And it shall come to pass, that every soul which will not hear that Prophet shall be destroyed from among the people. 24 Yea, and all the prophets from Samuel, and those that follow after, as many as have spoken, have Gen. 12,3. likewise foretold of these days. & 16, 18. & 22, 18. & 26, chap. 2, 39. 18 And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus. 19 But Peter and John answered and said unto o eh. 5, 29. them, Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye. 20 P For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard. ch.18 22. & 2, 22 & 3, 15. & 5, 32. & 10, 39. & 18,31 1 Pet. 1, S, 1 John 1, 1 21 So when they had further threatened them, 25 Ye are the children of the prophets, and of the they let them go, finding nothing how they might 21. 4.& 28, 14. Anno DOMINI Gamaliel's counsel. 25° Then came one and told them, saying, Behold, the men whom ye put in prison are standing in the temple, and teaching the people. p 33. o verses 20, 25 Then went the captain with the officers, and 21. brought them without violence: for they feared the p verse 13 people, lest they should have been stoned. 27 And when they had brought them, they set them before the council: and the high priest asked them, 28 Saying, Did not we straitly command you 9 ch. 2, 23, that you should not teach in this name? and, behold, 36. & 3, 13 ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and 7, 52 intend to bring this man's blood upon us. & 4, 18. verse 30. 29 1'Then Peter and the other apostles answered r ch. 4, 19. 7 And it was about the space of three hours after, 11 And great fear came upon all the church, and upon as many as heard these things. 121'And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people; (and they were all with one accord in Solomon's porch. 13 And of the rest durst no man join himself to them: but the people magnified them. 14 And believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women ;) 15 Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into chap. 2, 47. the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them. 35 And said unto them, Ye men of Israel, take heed to yourselves what ye intend to do as touching 25.6. these men. 36 For before these days rose up Theudas, boasting himself to be somebody; to whom a number of men, about four hundred, joined themselves: who was slain; and all, as many as obeyed him, were scattered, and brought to nought. 37 After this man rose up Judas of Galilee, in the days of the taxing, and drew away much people after him: he also perished; and all, even as many as obeyed him, were dispersed. 21 "And when they heard that, they entered into the temple early in the morning, and taught. But the high priest came, and they that were with him, and called the council together, and all the senate of the children of,srael, and sent to the prison to have them brought.AND in those days, when the number of the dis- 45, 47, not in the prison, they returned, and told, D 23 Saying, The prison truly found we shut with all safety, and the keepers standing without before the doors but when we had opened, we found no man within. 24 Now when the high priest and the captain of 12 the temple and the chief priests heard these things, they doubted of them whereunto this would grow. 5 Seven deacons chosen. Heb. 2, 2 verse 38. in c. 5, 33 1. ch. 6,5, 10. 55 And said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God. 57 Then they cried out with a loud voice, and stopped their ears, and ran upon him with one accord, 15 Who, when they were come down, prayed for thein, that they might receive the Holy Ghost: 16 For as yet he was fallen upon none of them; only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 17 Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost. 18 And when Simon saw, that through laying on of the apostles' hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money, 40. 8. 45. 19 Saying, Give me also this power, that on whom- b Mat. 10, soever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost. chap. 2, 32 20 But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish, with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money. 21 Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God. |
