Gal. iv. 5, 6. And we call him our Father IN HEAVEN, to fignify his abfolute Supremacy and Dominion over Us; in Contra-distinction to our earthly Parents, who are but Inftruments in his Hands as our Saviour fays upon another Occafion, Call no Man your Father upon the Earth; for One is your Father, which is in Heaven. Luke xiv. 26; that is, as it is expreffed by St. Matthew, He that LOVETH Father or Mother MORE than me is not worthy of me. Matt. x. 37. It is to be obferved farther, that when God Almighty is spoken of as being in Heaven, (which is the conftant Language of Scripture) we are not to understand it, as if He were confined to that, or any one, Part of the Universe in particular; for his Prefence is boundlefs, and we are exprefsly told, that the Heaven and Heaven of Heavens cannot contain Him. 1 Kings, viii. 27. In this Petition we pray for the Coming of that bleffed Time, foretold both in the Old and New Teftament, when the Earth fhall be full of the Knowledge of the Lord, as the Waters cover the Sea. In this Refpect we may, by God's Grace, and as Inftruments in his Hand, contribute to effect what we pray for; if we use our earnest Endeavours to promote and propagate the Faith of Chrift; not by Force and Violence (as the Papifts do, in direct Oppofition to the Example and Command of Him, whom they pretend to fervé) but by the SWORD of the SPIRIT, which is the Word of God.
