a But, if a Man find a betrothed Damfel, and force her, and lie with her, then the Man only, that lay with her, shall die.

b If a Man intice a Maid, that is not betrothed, and lie with her, he fhall furely endow her to be his Wife: If her Father utterly refufe to give her unto him, he shall pay Money, according to the Dowry of Virgins.

Stealing.

He that stealeth a Man, and felleth him, or, if he be found in his Hand, he fhall furely be put to Death.

f If a Man fhall fteal an Ox, or a Sheep, and kill it, or fell it, he fhall restore five Oxen for an Ox, and four Sheep for a Sheep. If the Theft be found in his Hand alive, whether it be Ox, Afs, or Sheep, he fhall restore double.

g If a Thief be found breaking up, he shall make full Reftitution; and, if he have nothing, then he fhall be fold for his Theft.

h When thou comeft into thy Neighbour's Vineyard, then thou mayeft eat Grapes thy fill; but thou shalt not put any in thy Veffel. When thou comeft into the ftanding Corn of thy Neighbour's, then thou mayft pluck the Ears with thy Hand; but thou shalt not move a Sickle into thy Neighbour's ftanding Corn.

a Let him that stole steal no more; but rather Let him labour, working with his. Hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.

Trefpafs and Damage.

b Remove not the ancient Land-marks, which thy Fathers have fet. For, Curfed is he that removeth his Neighbour's Land-mark.

If a Man fhall caufe a Field, or Vineyard, to be eaten, and fhall put in his Beaft, and fhall feed in another Man's Field; of the best of his own Field, and of the best of his own Vineyard, fhall he make Reftitution.

d He that killeth a Beast shall make it good; Beaft for Beaft.

e If Fire break out, fo that the Corn be confumed therewith, he that kindled the Fire fhall furely make Reftitution.

f If a Man borrow ought of his Neighbour, and it be hurt, or die, the Owner thereof being not with it, he fhall furely make it good: but if the Owner thereof be with it, he fhall not make it good. If it be an hired thing, it came for its Hire.

s For all manner of Trefpafs, whether it be for Ox, for Afs, for Sheep, for Raiment, or for any manner of loft thing, which another challengeth to be his; the Caufe of both Parties fhall come before the Judges; and whom the Judges fhall condemn., he fhall pay double unto his Neighbour.

Exact no more than that which is appointed

d Oppress not the Widow, nor the fatherless, nor the poor, neither vex a Stranger. Rob not the poor, because he is poor, neither opprefs the afflicted in the Gate; for the Lord will plead their Caufe, and fpoil the Soul of thofe that spoiled them.

e Thou shalt not oppress an hired Servant that is poor and needy: At his Day thou shalt give him his Hire, his Wages fhall not abide with thee all Night, unto the Morning; for he is poor, and fetteth his Heart upon it, left he cry against thee unto the Lord, and it be Sin unto thee.

f Wo unto him that buildeth his House by Unrighteousness, and his Chambers by Wrong; that ufeth his Neighbour's Service without Wages, and giveth him not for his Work.

8 He that oppreffeth the poor reproacheth his Maker.

h A poor Man that oppreffeth the poor, is like a fweeping Rain, which leaveth no Food.

If thou fell ought unto thy Neighbour, or buyeft ought of thy Neighbour's Hands, ye fhall not opprefs one another.

If thou lend Money to any that is poor by thee, thou shalt not be to him as an Ufurer, neither fhalt thou lay upon him Ufury, nor lend him thy Victuals for Increase.

a What mean ye, that ye grind the Faces of the poor, faith the Lord of Hofts?

He that oppreffeth the Poor, to increase his Riches, fhall furely come to want.

Wo unto them that have made dishonest Gain by Ufury and Increase, and have greedily gained of their Neighbours by Extortion, or by the the Iniquity of their Traffick.

He that by Ufury, and unjuft Gain, increases his Subftance, fhall gather it for them that will pity the poor.

é The wicked borroweth, and payeth not again; he spoileth by Violence, and reftoreth not the Pledge.

f He that with-holdeth Corn, the People shall curfe him; but Bleffing fhall be upon the Head of him that felleth it.

g Wo to him that buildeth a Town with Blood, and ftablisheth a City by Iniquity.

h Neither Thieves, nor Extortioners, fhall inherit the Kingdom of God.

i Wo to him that increaseth that which is not his For, better is a little with Righteousness, than great Revenues without Right.

e If a Soul fin, and commit a Trespass against the Lord, and lie unto his Neighbour, in that which was delivered him to keep, or in Fellowfhip, or in a thing taken away by Violence, or have deceived his Neighbour, or have found that which was loft, and lieth concerning it, and fweareth falfly: In any of all these that a Man doth, because he hath finned, and is guilty, he fhall restore that which he took violently away, or the thing which he hath deceitfully gotten, or that which was delivered him to keep, or the loft thing which he found; all that about which he hath fworn falfly, he fhall reftore it in the principal, and fhall add the fifth part more thereto, and give it unto him to whom it appertaineth.
