Sida 141 - If any member, in speaking or otherwise, transgress the rules of the House, the Speaker shall, or any member may, call to order; in which case, the member so called to order shall immediately sit down, unless permitted to explain; and the House shall, if appealed to, decide on the case, but without debate : if there be no appeal, the decision of the chair shall be submitted to.
Sida 161 - The rules of parliamentary practice, comprised in Jefferson's Manual, shall govern the House in all cases to which they are applicable, and in which they are not inconsistent with the standing rules and orders of the House, and joint rules of the Senate and House of Representatives.

Sida 158 - The first reading of a bill shall be for information, and, if opposition be made to it, the question shall be, " Shall this bill be rejected ?" If no opposition be made, or if the question to reject be negatived, the bill shall go to its second reading without a question.
Sida 125 - EVERY bill shall receive three readings previous to its being passed ; and the President shall give notice at each, whether it be the first, second, or third ; which readings shall be on three different days, unless the Senate unanimously direct otherwise...
Sida 161 - No standing rule or order of the House shall be rescinded or changed without one day's notice being given of the motion therefor. Nor shall any rule be suspended, except by a vote of at least twothirds of the members present.
Sida 66 - House will conveniently admit, they refer it to a committee. 6. But if the proposition be well digested, and may need but few and simple amendments, and especially if these be of leading consequence, they then proceed to consider and amend it themselves. The Senate, in their practice, vary from this regular gradation of forms. Their practice comparatively with that of Parliament stands thus: FOR THE PARLIAMENTARY: THE SENATE USES: Postponement indefinite, Postponement to a day beyond the session.
Sida 145 - Any member may call for the division of a question, which shall be divided if it comprehend propositions in substance so distinct that, one being taken away, a substantive proposition shall remain for the decision of the convention.
Sida 122 - Senate shall convene, they are hereby authorized to send the sergeantat-arms, or any other person or persons by them authorized, for any or all absent members, as the majority of such members present shall agree, at the expense of such absent members, respectively, unless such excuse for nonattendance shall be made as the Senate, when a quorum is convened, shall judge sufficient; and in that case the expense shall be paid out of the contingent fund.
