The Lord will also then bestow
Whatever thing is good;

Our land shall forth in plenty throw
Her fruits to be our food.

Before him righteousness shall go,
His royal harbinger;

Then will he come, and not be slow;
His footsteps cannot err.

33.-L.M.

Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands.

FROM all that dwell below the skies,

Let the Creator's praise arise

;

Let the Redeemer's name be sung,

Through every land, by every tongue.

Eternal are thy mercies, Lord!
Eternal truth attends thy word;

Thy praise shall sound from shore to shore,
Till suns shall rise and set no more.

34.-148th.

So we thy people and sheep of thy pasture, will give thee thanks for ever.

ALL from the sun's uprise
Unto his setting rays
Resound in jubilees

The great Jehovah's praise.
Him serve alone;

In triumph bring

Your gifts and sing

Before his throne.

Man drew from man his birth;

But God his noble frame
Built of the ruddy earth,
Filled with celestial flame.
His sons we are;
Sheep by him led,
Preserved and fed
With tender care.

O to his portals press,
your divine resorts:

In

With thanks his power profess,

And praise him in his courts.
How good! how pure!

His mercies last:

His promise past
For ever sure.

35.-L.M.

Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the Lord.

FATHER and Friend! thy light, thy love
Beaming through all thy works we see;
Thy glory gilds the heavens above,

And all the earth is full of Thee.

Thy voice we hear, thy presence feel,
While Thou, too pure for mortal sight,
Involved in clouds-invisible,

Reignest the Lord of life and light.

We know not in what hallowed part

Of the wide heavens thy throne may be; But this we know, that where Thou art, Strength, wisdom, goodness, dwell with Thee.

Thy children shall not faint nor fear,
Sustained by this delightful thought,
Since Thou their God art everywhere,
They cannot be where Thou art not.

36.-L.M.

The earth is full of the goodness of the Lord.

YES, God is good; in earth and sky, From ocean-depths and spreading wood, Ten thousand voices seem to cry,

[ocr errors]

God made us all, and God is good."

The sun that keeps his trackless way,
And downward pours his golden flood,
Night's sparkling hosts, all seem to say,
In accents clear, that God is good.

The merry birds prolong the strain,
Their song with every spring renewed;
And balmy air and falling rain

Each softly whisper, "God is good."

I hear it in the rustling breeze;
The hills that have for ages stood,
The echoing sky and roaring seas,
All swell the chorus, "God is good."

Yes, God is good, all nature says,

By God's own hand with speech endued;
And man in louder notes of praise,
Should sing for joy that God is good.

For all thy gifts we bless thee, Lord;
But chiefly for our heavenly food,
Thy pardoning grace, thy quickening word;
These prompt our song, that God is good.

37.-L.M.

The day-spring from on high.

THE heavens declare thy glory, Lord!
In every star thy wisdom shines:
But when our eyes behold thy word,
We read thy name in fairer lines.

The rolling sun, the changing light,
And nights and days, thy power confess;
But the blest volume Thou hast writ,
Reveals thy justice and thy grace.

Sun, moon, and stars, convey thy praise
Round the whole earth, and never stand;
So when thy truth began its race,

It touched and glanced on every land.

Nor shall thy spreading gospel rest

Till through the world thy truth has run; Till Christ has all the nations blest That see the light, or feel the sun.

Great Sun of Righteousness, arise,

Bless the dark world with heavenly light;
Thy gospel makes the simple wise,
Thy laws are pure, thy judgments right.

Thy noblest wonders here we view
In souls renewed, and sins forgiven;
Lord, cleanse my sins, my soul renew,
And make thy word my guide to heaven.
