To make an ostentatious display of our wealth.

To aspire to higher distinction and despise our humbler

Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not high-minded, nor trust in uncertain riches. 1 Tim. vi. 17.

Whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him? 1 John iii. 17.

Him that hath an high look and a proud heart will not I suffer. Psalm ci. 5.

Let not the rich man glory in his riches. Jer. ix. 23.

Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Rom. xii. 16.

And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind. For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things. Luke xii. 28-30.

Be content with such things

be discontented at our low condition.

To desire to be rich.

To be envious of those who are more prosperous in the world than ourselves. Tosteal our neighbour's goods.

To neglect the religious education of the children whom God has given.

as ye have for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. Heb. xiii. 5.

They that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is the root of all evil which while some co

veted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. 1 Tim. vi. 9, 10.

Where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. James iii. 16.

Do not steal. Mark x. 19.

Bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Eph. vi. 4.

Some sins not included in the foregoing, and to which all sorts and conditions of men are by nature inclined.

To presume upon God's mercy. Not walking according to our baptismal profession,

Neglecting to commemorate the death of Christ in the Lord's Supper. Not doing to others as we would be done by.

To return evil for

evil.

Shall we continue in sin, that

grace may abound? Rom. vi. 1. Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. Rom. vi. 3, 4.

For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come. 1 Cor. xi. 26.

Whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them. Matt. vii. 12. Recompense to no man evil

for evil. Rom. xii. 17.
