29. SOCIETY OF PATRONS OF THE ANNIVERSARY OF THE CHARITY SCHOOLS, under the patronage of THE KING. President, Sir Watkin Lewes, Knt.; Secretary, Mr. J. Robinson. The annual meeting of the children of ALL the schools, is held at St. Paul's Cathedral, on St. George's day. The sight is truly grand-being well calculated to strike the imagination and impress the heart.

30. LADIES' SOCIETY FOR THE EDUCATION AND EMPLOYMENT OF THE FEMALE POOR AT CHELSEA. Patroness, THE QUEEN; Secretary, Mrs. King.

31. NATIONAL EDUCATION SOCIETY, 1812. Patron, PRINCE REGENT; President, Archbishop of Canterbury; Secretary, Rev. T. T. Walmsley. Dr. Andrew Bell's system is adopted by this Society, which in the education of the Children of the Poor, uses the Church catechism, and common Prayer Book along with the Bible, and insists on their at tendance upon the Established religion.

32. THE BRITISH AND FOREIGN SCHOOL SOCIETY (originally denominated the royal System of Education, and commonly called the Lancasterian Institution) for the education of the laborious and manufactoring classes of Society of EVERY religious persuasion. Patron HIS MAJESTY, supported by THE PRINCE REGENT; Vice Patrons, the DUKES of KENT and SUSSEX.-President, DUKE OF BEDFORD; Secretary, Joseph Fox, Esq. The paternal wish of our

VENERABLE SOVEREIGN, "I would have every poor man's child in the kingdom read the Bible," links in indissoluble bands the British and Foreign School Society, with the British and Foreign Bible Society! Hence the illustrious names of KENT and of SUSSEX, are with admirable consistency found associated in the patronage of both Institutions-a circumstance, which, whilst it draws forth the applause of contemporaries, will ensure the gratitude of posterity! Embracing poor children of EVERY RELIGIOUS PERSUASION, it rears its majestic structure upon the basis of general utility, and ought to be supported by every well-wisher to the community. Its success constitutes the triumph of KNOWLEDGE Over ignorance-of VIRTUE Over vice-of HAPPINESS over misery! The BRITISH and FOREIGN SCHOOL SOCIETY, a tle by which it has been recently and most impressively designated, must prove a blessing to THE WORLD

Let not a form which bears your MAKER'S IMAGE
Defeat the end of being!-KNow 'tis yours

In heav'nly tints to dip the infant soul-
To raise the new idea-lift it high

Ev'n to JEHOVAH's throne-the ductile mind
Pliant as wax shall wear the mould, you give ;
Sharp gratitude YOU'VE called to life, shall cut
In cyphers deep the now-expanded heart--
And e'en beyond the chambers of the grave

The JOYOUS SPIRIT shall your record bear,
To meet your eyes when trembling worlds expire !*

Thus, including the Bible Society, with which this LIST Commenced, there are upwards of THIRTY Religious Societies, which have for their object the diffusion and prosperity of THE CHRISTIAN RELIGION, both at Home and Abroad! Some of these are honoured with the patronage of THEIR MAJESTIES-Of THE PRINCE REGENT-Of THE ROYAL DUKES-and of other NOBLES of the Land. It is then one felicity of the present times, that the ancient complaint urged by Nehemiah, The Nobles put not their necks to the work of the Lord, cannot be reiterated by the inhabitants of Britain, without certain honourable exceptions. But we are reminded of the prophetic language of ISAIAH, chap. xlix. 22, 23,-together with a sublime passage from the Book of the Revelations, Chap. xi. 15, with which the canon of Scripture concludesThus saith the Lord God, Behold, I will lift up mine hand to the Gentiles, and set up my Standard to the People. And KINGS shall be thy nursing Fathers, and their QUEENS thy nursing Mothers (they shall become good themselves, and be the protectors of RELIGION and LIBERTY) and thou shalt know that I am the Lord, for they shall not be ashamed that wait for me.-And the

*The benevolent heart will be gratified by consulting a work on the subject of PUBLIC CHARITIES in the Metropolis and its Vicinity-including Hospitals, Dispensaries, Almshouses, &c. entitled PIETAS LONDINENSIS-the History, Design, and present State of the various Public Charities in and ncar London, by Anthony Highmore, Esq. This work was lately put into my hands by my worthy friend, John Shephard, Esq. of Doctors' Commons, whose, intelligent spirit prompts him to diffuse useful knowledge on every occasion. Members of dif ferent communions ought ever to be endeared to each other by their liberality and integrity. This is the true spirit of Christianity.
