And then fhall he fend his angels, and fhall gather together his elect from the four winds, from the uttermoft part of the earth to the uttermoft part of heaven. 28 Now learn a parable of the fig-tree (b): when her branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, 29 ye know that the fummer is near: So ye in like manner, when ye fhall fee these things come to pafs, know that it is nigh, even at the doors. 30 Verily I fay unto you, that this (i) generation 31 fhall not pafs, till all these things be done. CHA P. XIV.

FTER two days, was the feaft of the paffover, and of unleavened (a) bread: and the chief priests and the fcribes fought how they might take him by 2 craft, and put him to death. But they faid, Not on the feaft-day, left there be an uproar of the people.

And being in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper (b), as he fat at meat, there came a woman, having an alabafter-box of ointment of spikenard, very

(This is an anfwer to the queftions concerning the deftruction of Jerufalem, verfe 4, and may be explained by what our bleffed Saviour faith, Acts i. 7: it being one of the times and seasons which the Father hath put in his power, and made no part of the revelation which the Son was to preach to the world.

And as they did eat, Jefus took bread, and blesfed, and brake it, and gave to them, and faid, Take, 23 eat this is my body (g). And he took the cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them: 24 and they all drank of it. And he faid unto them,

This is my blood of the new teftament, which is 25 fhed for many. Verily I fay unto you, I will drink no more of the fruit of the vine, until that day that I drink it new in the (b) kingdom of God.

And when they had fung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives. And Jesus faith unto them, All ye fhall be offended because of me this night for it is written, I will fmite the fhepherd,

And he cometh, and findeth them fleeping, and faith unto Peter, Simon, fleepest thou? 38 couldft thou not watch one hour? Watch ye and pray, left ye enter into (k) temptation: the spirit 39 truly is ready, but the fleth is weak. And again he went away, and prayed, and fpake the fame 40 words. And when he returned, he found them afleep again, (for their eyes were heavy) neither (1) 41 wift-they what to anfwer him. And he cometh the third time, and faith unto them (m), Sleep on now,

(i) St. Mark fays twice, becaufe he wrote his gofpel particularly for the ufe of the chriflian converts at Rome; the people there reckoning two cock-crowings, viz. the firft at midnight, and the other at three in the morning: but the Jews reckoned only by the latter.
