And as fome fpake of the temple, how it was 6 adorned with goodly ftones, and gifts, he said, As for these things which ye behold, the days will come, in the which there fhall not be left one stone 7 upon another, that fhall not be thrown down. And they asked him, faying, Mafter, but when shall these things be? and what fign will there be when these 8 things fhall come to pafs? And he faid, Take heed that ye be not deceived: for many fhall come in my name, faying, I am Chrift; and the time draweth 9 near go ye not therefore after them. But when ye fhall hear of wars and commotions, be not terrified for these things must first come to pass, but Io the end is not by and by (c). Then faid he unto them,

(f) When this unbelieving city fhall be deftroyed, you that are faithful, and endure to the end, fhall be fafe. Matt. x. 22. cordingly, when Jerufalem was befieged by the Roman General, Titus, there was not a Chrißian left in it; they all having efcaped to Pella, a fmall town beyond the river Jordan. Thus did it please God to referve the faithful difciples of his Son from impending deftruction. And let this remarkable paffage teach us to reverence the wonderful ways of Providence; which, if fuch be God's good pleasure, can preserve us even in the most imminent danger from the fmalleft hurt.

And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh. 29 And he fpake to them a parable, Behold the fig-tree, 30 and all the trees; When they now fhoot forth, ye

fee, and know of your own felves, that fummer is 31 now nigh at hand. So likewife ye, when ye fee

thefe things come to pafs, know ye that the kingdom 32 of God is nigh at hand. Verily I fay unto you, This generation fhall not pass away, till all be fulfilled. Heaven and earth fhall pass away: but my words fhall not pafs away (7).

And take heed to yourfelves, left at any time your hearts be overcharged with furfeiting, and drunkennefs, and cares of this life, and fo that day come For as a fnare fhall it come on 35 upon you unawares. all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth (m). 36 Watch ye therefore and pray always, that ye may

be accounted worthy to efcape all these things that

(i) Until the Gentiles fhall be converted, and the kingdoms of the world fhall become the kingdoms of the Lord, and of his Chrift.

(4) The power and dominion of God will foon be manifefted in the deftruction of the unbelieving Jews, according to my prediction; for that will moft affuredly be eftablifhed and fulfilled, notwithstanding all the revolutions that fhall happen in the world.
