Jesus Christ, they were baptized both men and won 13 men. Then Simon himselfbelieved also (d): and when
he was baptized, he continued with Philip, and won
dered, beholding the miracles and signs which were 14 done. Now when the apostles which were at Jeru
falem, heard that Samaria had received the word of 15 God (e), they fent unto them Peter and John. Who
when they were come down, prayed for them that 16 they might receive the holy Ghoit, (For as yet he
was fallen upon none of them : only they were bap17 tized in the name of the Lord Jesus) (f). Then laid
they their hands on them, and they received the holy 18 Ghoft. And when Simon faw that through laying
on of the apostles hands (g), the holy Ghost was 19 given, he oifered them money, Saying, Give ne
also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he 20 may receive the holy Ghost. But Peter said unto
him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hait
thought that the gift of God may be purchased with 21 money. Thou hast neither part nor lot in this mat
ter : for thy heart is not right in the sight of God. 22 Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray
God, if perhaps (b) the thought of thine heart may 23 be forgiven thee. For I perceive that thou art in (c) The kingdom of God is the religion of Christ
. Chap. i. 3. (d) Simon was convinced by the reasoning and miracles of Philip; but his corrupt heart was not changed.
(e) The gifts of the holy Ghost could be conferred only by the hands of the apostles, and therefore Peter and John were sent. From hence appears, that St. Peter claimed no supremacy over the rest of the apostles, but obeyed their directions.

and behold a man of Ethiopia, an eunuch of great authority under Candace queen of the Ethiopians (k),
who had the charge of all her treasure, and had come 28 to Jerusalem for to worship (1), Was returning, and 29 fitting in his chariot read Efaias the prophet. Then
the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself 30 to this chariot. And Philip ran thither to him, and
heard him read the prophet Efaias, and said, Under31
standeft thou whai thou readest ? And he said, How can I, except fome man ihould guide me? and he
desired Philip that he would come up, and fit with 32 him. The place of the scripture which he read,
was this, He was led as a iheep to the slaughter, and
like a lainb dumb before his Thearer, so opened he 33 not his mouth : In his humiliation his judgment was taken away (m): and who shall declare his genera
(i) Gall of bitterness fignifies the very worft ftate of corruption : by the bond of iriquity is meant the hardest of all bondage and ilavery, even that of sinful lufs.

came unto a certain water: an the eunuch said,
See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be bap37 tized? And Philip faid, If thou believest with all
thine heart, thou mayeit. And he answered and said, 38 I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. And
he commanded the chariot to stand still : and they
went down both into the water, both Philip and the 39 eunuch; and he baptized him.
And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the
Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him. 40 no more : and he went on his way rejoicing. But
Philip was found at Azotuis : and pafing through, he preached in all the cities, till he came to Cefarea,

journeyed he came near Damascus: and suddenly

5 And he said, Who art thou, Lord ? And the Lord
said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: It is hard 6 for thee to kick against the pricks (6). And he
trembling and astonished, faid, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise,
and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what 7 thou must do. And the men which journeyed with
him ftood fpeechless, hearing a voice, but seeing no 8 man (c). And Saul arose from the earth; and when
his eyes were opened (d), he faw 110 man: but they
led him by the hand, and brought him into Damal'g cus. And he was three days without fight, and neithcr did eat nor drink.
And there was a certain disciple at Damascus, named Ananias, and to him said the Lord in a vision,
Ananias. And he said, Behold, I am here, Lord. II And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the
1treet which is called Straight, and enquire in the
house of Judas, for one called Saul of Tarsus,, for 12 behold he prayeth,
And hath seen in a vision a man named Ananias, coming in, and pucting his hand 13 on hiin, that he might receive his fight. Then A
nanias answered, Lord, I have heard by many of
this man, how much evil he hath done to thy saints (2) 14 at Jerusalem : And here he hath authority from the 15 chief priests, to bind all that call on thy name (F). But
the Lord said unto hiro, Gothy way: for ne is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my nanie before the

strengthened. Then was Saul certain days with the 20 disciples which were at Damasaus. And straightway
he preached Christ in the synagogues, that he is the 21 Son of God. But all that heard him were ainazed,
and said, Is not this he that destroyed them which called on this name in Jerusalem, and came hither
for that intent, that he might bring them bound unto 22 the chief priests? But Saul increased the more in
strength (k), and confounded the Jews which dwelt
at Damascus, proving that this is the very Christ. 23 And after that many days were fulfilled, the Jews. 24
took counsel to kill him.. But their laying await was
known of Sail: and they watched the gates day and" 25 night to kill him. Then the disciples took him by
night, and let him down by the wall in a basket. 26 And when Saul was come to Jerusalem (?), he aslay
ed to join himself to the disciples : but they were all.
afraid of him, and believed not that he was a disci2.7 pie. But Barnabas took him, and brought him to
