TO THE

CONGREGATION OF ST. JOHN'S CHAPEL,

ST. JOHN'S WOOD, ST. MARY-LE-BONE.

THE FOLLOWING

SERMONS

ARE INSCRIBED,

IN GRATEFUL ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF

THE KIND ATTENTION

GIVEN DURING THEIR DELIVERY,

BY THEIR OBEDIENT AND FAITHFUL SERVANT,

THE AUTHOR.

PREFACE.

AMONG the numerous Sermons that are offered to the Public, few are written in so plain a style as to be adapted for family use. The Author of the following does not anticipate, that he can supply the deficiency; but he entertains a hope, that these Sermons may not be without benefit to those families who are accustomed, or may be induced to assemble at their own homes for worship, whenever their attendance at the Church may be prevented.

The first eighteen Sermons are upon various subjects, and are intended to enforce Scriptural doctrines by moral practice. The five following are on the OFFICES of the Church, which only require to be understood to be properly appreciated, and to be retraced to their proper antiquity, to render their claims

our observance manifest. The last treats of the value of the Bible, as the only rule of life, and the genuine source, from which our doctrines and offices have flowed from the primitive times to our

own.

The Author submits this Volume to the Public in the humble confidence, but with a fervent prayer, that it may effect its desired object, and that the blessing of God may rest upon it, and influentially operate on those, who read its pages.
