45 Now from the sixth hour there was darkness a over all the land unto the ninth hour.

46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, b my God, my God, why e hast thou forsaken me?

47 Some of them that stood there, when they heard that, said, This man calleth for Elias.

3 And straightway one of them an, and took a sponge, and filled it with c vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink. 49 The rest said, Let be, let us see whether Elias will come to save him.

50 Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost,

51 And, behold, the veil d of the temple was rente in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;

52 And f the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which g slept, arose,

CHAPTER XXVIII.

1 Christ's resurrection declared: 9 appeareth to the women, and to his disciples.

IN Na the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene b and the other Mary to see the sepulchre.

2 And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it.

3 His c countenance was like lightning and his raiment white as snow: 4 And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men. 5 And the angel answeredd and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for e I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified.

6 He is not here: for he is risen, as he said.f Come, see the place where the Lord lay.

7 And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he goeth before you into Galilee; there h shall ye see him: lo, I have told you.

8 And they departed quickly from the sepulchre, with fear and great joy; and did run to bring his disci ples word.

16 Now t as he walked by the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting a net into the sea: (for they were fishers.)

17 And Jesus said unto them,

Peter's mother-in-law cured. Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men. 18 And straightway they forsook their nets, and followed him.

19 And when he had gone a little farther thence, he saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who also were in the ship mending their nets.

20 And straightway he called them and they left their father Zebedee in the ship with the hired Servants, and went after him.

21 And they went into Capernaum; and straightway on the sabbath-day he entered into the synagogue, a , and taught. 22 And u they were astonished at his doctrine: for he taught them as one that had authority, and not as the scribes.
