Margaret Street, Dec. 4th, 1854.

I return you herewith your manuscript which you have been so good as to allow me to peruse, the work appears to me a perfect manual of Judaism. It is written in a true religious spirit, and its publication would, to my thinking, tend greatly to the religious instruction of the youth of our community. I trust that no time may be lost on the publication of your excellent and most useful volume. For my part, I shall consider it a sacred duty, to use the little influence I possess for the purpose of promoting its circulation.

Mr. Davidsohn.

1 am, Dear Sir,

Yours truly,

D. W. MARKS.

Dear Sir,

I have read your manuscript with great pleasure, it contains much which is valuable for schools and families. Although written for Jews, yet it is interesting to the Christian, were it nothing more than to show how the subjects under discussion are treated by an Israelite. I wish it every success, and trust it will be the means of doing much good.

From a hasty perusal of your manuscript, I perceive that you have embodied some good and useful thoughts, for the most part in a lucid style, and the objects stated in your preface are very laudable, and the publication may be attended with beneficial effects to young and old. I am inclined to think, that a scriptural epitome of religion and moral, compiled by a Jew and adapted to general use, might be of great use in breaking down gentile prejudices, your book being professedly philisophical as well as theological.
