and Jo-an-na, and Ma-ry the mother of James, and o-ther wom-en that were with them, which told these things un-to the A-pos-tles. And their words seem-ed to them as id-le tales, and they be-liev-ed them not. Then a-rose Pe-ter, and ran un-to the sep-ul-chre; and stoop-ing down, he be-held the lin-en clothes laid by them-selves, and de-part-ed, won-der-ing in himself at that which was come to pass.

QUESTIONS.

When did the pious women, who had prepared spices and ointments, go to the sepulchre ?

On the first day of the week, very early in the morning.

What did they find?

That the stone was rolled away from the door of the sepulchre.

What did they do?
They entered in.

Did they find the body of the Lord Jesus?

No.

Who appeared to them in the form of

men?

Two angels.

What showed that they were angels ?

Their shining garments.

What did the angels say to them?

"He is not here, for He is risen."

What did the angels remind the women that Jesus had told them?

That He would be delivered into the hands of wicked men, and be crucified, and rise again.

Did the women then recollect Christ's words?

Yes.

What did they then do?

They returned from the sepulchre, and told these things to the eleven apostles.

Why were there only eleven apostles : our Saviour had chosen twelve to be with Him?

Because Judas, one of the twelve, had betrayed Christ, and had hanged himself. Did the apostles believe the women? No; their words seemed to them as idle tales, and they believed them not. Who ran to look into the sepulchre? Simon Peter.

The pious women who had attended our Lord's crucifixion, were desirous of embalming His body, forgetful of His words so often repeated, that He should rise again from the dead on the third day. The Jewish Sabbath was observed on the day which we call Saturday. Our Lord expired on the cross on Friday: the day kept holy in re

membrance of His death is called Good Friday. He remained in the grave all Saturday, and rose on Sunday morning, which was the third day; and in memory of that glorious resurrection, Christians have ever since kept the Sabbath on Sunday; but the Jews still observe Saturday as their day of rest. We need not now fear death, as it does, through Christ, lead to our rising again. By Adam came death and sin, but in Christ shall all be made alive. Our Saviour has triumphed over death and Satan therefore may His faithful people rest in peace, with the sure and certain hope of their resurrection at the last day to eternal life and everlasting happiness, through their Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

AND, be-hold, two of them went that same day to a vil-lage cal-led Em-ma-us, which was from Je-rusa-lem a-bout three-score fur-longs. And they talk-ed to-geth-er of all these things which had hap-pened. And it came to pass, that while they com-mun-ed to-geth-er, and rea-son-ed, Je-sus him - self drew near, and went with them. But their eyes were hold-en, that they should not know Him. And He said un-to them, "What manner of com-mu-ni-ca-tions are these that ye have one to an-o-ther, as
