How did Jesus convince them that it was Himself?

He shewed them His hands and His feet, and then He ate before them.

What did He say He had told them must be fulfilled?

All things that were written in the Bible concerning Him.

How did He make them comprehend and believe all this?

He opened their understanding.

What did He say must be preached among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. Repentance, and remission of sins. What did Jesus say the apostles were to be?

Witnesses of these things.

What did Jesus mean, by sending the promise of the Father upon them?

It was the gift of the Holy Spirit, which would enable them to work miracles, and give them grace and strength to do and bear all things for Christ's sake.

Where did Jesus tell them to remain till this power should be given? At Jerusalem.

Observe, my dear children, the mildness, kindness, and gentleness of your Saviour: instead of being angry with His apostles for their timidity and weakness of faith, He condescended to show them His hands and feet, and desired them to touch Him, and see that it was He Himself; and afterwards ate before them. He then gave them understanding, to perceive that it was necessary for the salvation of mankind, that Christ should die; and that His death and resurrection were predicted in the Scriptures and He accompanied this His first appearance to His apostles, with these words of consolation," Peace be unto you." Peace on earth, you remember, was promised

by the angels to mankind when the Saviour of the world was born. Whenever you feel strife and anger arise in your hearts, think how far you are from following the example of your mild and benevolent Saviour; and consider how unworthy you must be of the name of Christian, if you do not possess the Christian virtues of peace and love. Never forget Christ's words, "By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another."
