DISTRIBUTE "EIVING WATERS!"'

A WORD FROM THE EDITOR TO EVERY READER.

WE think that the readers of LIVING WATERS might do an immense amount of good by distributing a few copies, monthly, according as their means will allow. In the first place there are thousands who would take it in if they only knew of it: and they can only know of it by having it put before them. The most effective way of doing this is to give them a copy. And who can tell the blessing which may follow when the Magazine is thus introduced, as a regular visitor, into a new house? All the members of the family take it up in turn; and the Gospel message may take root in many a heart which would not otherwise have heard it, and several may be led thereby to become regular Bible readers.

Again, everybody will not take it in, and, therefore, if these are to be brought within reach of the blessing, which may spring from reading it, the Magazine must be given to them as regularly as it can be done. Many a soul may be led to higher and holier thoughts, and then, perhaps, to Christ for salvation, who might never be reached in any other way. Thousands might be led, in this way, to join the Union. Only on the morning of writing this, we received the following letter: "I have had a little book given me entitled LIVING WATERS. I like it very much, but I am only a working man and cannot do much. I should like to become a member."

This ripened our already-formed intention of writing to all the readers of Living WATERS, of all ages, and in all conditions of life, asking them to see if they could not give away every month one or more copies, as they are able to afford it. Some could take only one extra copy for giving away, some could manage two or three, others, six, twelve, or even more. We heard from another, also, this morning, who says, "I take thirty copies of LIVING WATERS, which I find most useful for distribution monthly." Every one will find opportunity for giving away as many copies as they can procure each month. There are the tradesmen who come to the door, or to whose shops we go; there are errand boys and others who bring parcels to our houses; there are our servants, or those of others; there are those perhaps in our employ in other ways; there are policemen, postmen, and railway men; there are our fellow workpeople, our fellow servants, our schoolfellows, our fellow students; there are members of our Bible classes, Sunday-school classes, Mothers' meetings, and residents in the districts or workhouses which we visit; there are the sick on all sides of us either in their own homes or in hospitals; there is the wide circle of relations or friends; and several others besides.

All these need what "LIVING WATERS" can teach; but many do not get

it, because thousands who read and value "LIVING WATERS" do not distribute it to the utmost of their ability. They enjoy the teaching, but they forget to hand it on to others.

Will EVERY READER of these lines ask himself or herself, "COULD I AFFORD ONE OR MORE EXTRA COPIES OF "LIVING WATERS EACH MONTH TO GIVE AWAY?? Pennies with most peeple, and sixpences, shillings, and even larger sums with some, slip away in useless and unnecessary ways. Who will reserve some of this waste and turn it to the highest account? And if what we ask means even a little self-denial to afford it, it will be well worth the sacrifice it costs. Let every copy be distributed for the Lord, with prayer for His blessing upon it; and "showers of blessing" will follow.

We have had an extra number printed this month in the confidence that none will refuse to do something. All who will work in this way should at once order of their bookseller the numbers they will distribute monthly, commencing with this October number. Those who receive their magazine by post have only to arrange to receive the extra copies they require.

Let a good start be made this October and kept up. It would be an encouragement to the Editor in his work, if all who commence thus to distribute 66 LIVING WATERS" would send him a post-card saying how many they intend to take for the purpose. Address the Rev. E. Boys, Scripture Union Office, 21, Exeter Hall, London, W.C.
