SCRIPTURE READING UNION.

Countless blessings may be awaiting each onward step, and Christ our Master "goeth before" (Jno. x. 4). St. Paul speaks of "pressing on " (Phil. iii. 12, 13, 14).

Nov. 28.-Ch. xv. 3. Moreover it was joy (Psa, xl. 8) and life (Jno. iv. 34) to the Saviour to do His Father's will. Psa, cxix. 16, 24, are very helpful for our daily pilgrimage.

Nov. 29. Ch. xv. 30. Again the three persons of the Trinity are mentioned in one verse: 1. God the Prayer-Hearer. 2. Christ the Mediator. 3. The Spirit, the Comforter.

Nov. 30. Ch. xvi. 19. "Simple concerning evil" (see 1 Co. xiii. 5), and read St. Paul's advice to the Corinthians (1 Co. xiv. 20), "In malice be ye children, but in understanding be men."

DISTRIBUTE "LIVING WATERS!"-We have received from several of our readers an intimation of their willingness to take extra copies (some one, others up to 24) of LIVING WATERS monthly to distribute, in answer to our appeal last month. We hope, however, to receive very many more, as soon as our friends wake up to the importance of the work. Will our readers this month refer again to what we said in the last number, and will each ask: WHAT CAN I DO? One writes, "I distribute every month twelve copies, sending them by post to twelve gate-keepers on the G.W. Railway." This is just a sample of what all might do in greater or less degree. We shall still be glad to receive similar intimations from those who will take up this sphere of work. They should send a post-card stating how many extra copies they will take, to the Rev. E. Boys, 21, Exeter Hall, London, W.C.

"ARE YOU INSIDE THE STRAIT GATE?"

"ARE YOU INSIDE THE STRAIT GATE ?"

HERE had been a mission in a small country village. Day after day the people had gathered in their working clothes into the old church. Now the closing evening had come, and the church was fuller than it had ever been before. The Spirit of God had been working, and many were glad with the joy of the new light of life.

Before the mission began, the preacher had been told, "You must not look for great things there; the people have heard the Gospel for so many years; and, besides, in a village you must not expect people to stay for an after-meeting, for whoever stays will be talked about all over the village." But the preacher believed that his message had power to break into any hearts, and he held on his way, and with blessed results; and by the closing day, people forgot to be afraid what their neighbours would think, and stayed to the end of the after-meeting, and the loving, faithful words which many had heard all their lives from their own clergyman were springing up in full harvest.

There were such joyful looks all round on that last evening; and it was late before all was over, there were so many who waited for last words. I thought all were gone, and was leaving. But in the great porch I was met by a woman with the most beaming face I ever saw, sparkling all over with joy.

"Oh, miss," she said, "I could not help waiting to speak to you, for I thought you would like to know how very happy I am."

"Indeed I am, Mrs. Poyser," I said; "and will you tell me about it, and since when you have been so happy?"

And then she answered so gladly-for when people have got something to tell they do not resent being asked a "personal question." "It was only a night or two back, in the after-meeting, after we had sung 'Just as I am' on our knees, and the preacher had said, 'Now we shall have silent prayer that each one may tell God whether they do come to Him.' It was in that silent time that I decided, and now I am so happy!"

Yes she was indeed, anyone could see that by her radiant face, and
