One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy (i)! Behold, even to the moon, and it shineth not: yea, the stars are not pure in thy sight: how much less man (j), who drinketh iniquity like water (k)! Shall not thine excellency make me afraid? and thy dread fall upon me()? Shall I not hide me in the dust, for fear of the Lord, and for the glory of his majesty (m)? since, without holiness, no man shall see the Lord (n).

Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean (o): thou canst clothe me with righteousness (p), and with the garments of salvation (q), and cast all my sins into the depths of the sea (r).

[blocks in formation]

Sing unto the Lord, O ye saints of his, and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness (s). Let every thing that hath breath praise the Lord (t).

PRAISE OF THE GOODNESS ARD MERCY OF GOD.

Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth me with benefits. Psalm Ixviii. 19.

destruction; who crowneth thee with loving kindness and tender mercies; who executeth righteousness and judgment for all that are oppressed(a).

The Lord is good to all, and his tender mercies are over all his works (b). He hath not dealt with us after our sins, nor rewarded us according to our iniquities (c): for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil, and on the good; and sendeth rain on the just, and on the unjust (d). The Lord is merciful and gracious, long-suffering and abundant in goodness and truth, keeping mercy for thousands, and forgiving iniquity, and transgression, and sin (e). For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward

them that fear him: as far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us. Like as a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear him(f): he exacteth less of us than our iniquity deserveth (g): he giveth unto all men liberally, and upbraideth not (h).

Bless the Lord, ye his angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of his word. Bless ye the Lord, all ye his hosts; ye ministers of his that do his pleasure. Bless the Lord, all his works, in all places of his dominion: bless the Lord, O my soul (i).

PRAISE OF THE PROVIDENCE OF GOD.

While the earth remaineth, seed-time and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night, shall not cease. Gen. viii. 22.

O LORD, how manifold are thy works! in wisdom hast thou made them all: the earth is full of thy riches (a). Thou crownest the year with thy goodness, and thy paths drop fatness (b). Thou coverest the heaven with clouds, and preparest rain for the earth (c). Thou causest the grass to grow for the cattle, and herb for the service of man (d). The eyes of all wait upon thee, and thou givest them their meat in due season: thou openest thine hand, and
