HE night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.

V. Behold, the Lord God will come with strong hand, and His arm shall rule for Him.

R. Behold, His reward is with Him, and His work before Him.

GRANT, we most humbly beseech Thee, O heavenly Father, that with holy Simeon and Anna, and all Thy devout servants, who waited for the consolation of Israel, we may at this time so serve Thee with fasting and prayer, that by the celebration of the advent and birth of our blessed Redeemer, we may with them be filled with true joy and consolation; through the same Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Christmas.

TO-day is Christ born; to-day the Saviour hath appeared; to-day upon earth Angels sing, and Archangels rejoice; to-day the righteous are joyful, and sing, Glory be to God on high!、 Alleluia!

V. Lo! this is our God, we have waited for Him; R. He will come and save us.

GOD, which makest us glad with the yearly

remembrance of the birth of Thy only Son Jesus Christ; grant that as we joyfully receive Him for our Redeemer, so we may with sure confidence behold Him when He shall come to be our Judge, who liveth and reigneth with Thee and the Holy Ghost, ever one God, world without end. Amen.

THE

V. All kings shall fall down before Him; R. All nations shall do Him service. GRANT, we beseech Thee, Almighty God, that we, upon whom is shed the light of Thine Incarnate Word, who is the light to lighten the Gentiles and the glory of Thy people Israel, may let that same light, which through faith illumines our souls, shine forth also in our actions; through the same Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Lent.

TURN ye even unto Me, saith the Lord, with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning.

V. We have sinned with our fathers;

R. We have done amiss and dealt wickedly.

WE

E beseech Thee, O Lord, to show upon us
Thine exceeding great mercy, which no

tongue can worthily express; and that it may please Thee to deliver us from all our sins, and also from the pains that we have for them deserved. Grant this, O Lord, through our Mediator and Advocate Jesus Christ. Amen.

Passiontide.

CHRIST crucified, to the Jews a stumbling

block, and to the Greeks foolishness; but unto them that are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ, the Power of God, and the Wisdom of God.

V. We worship Thee, O Christ, with praise and benediction;

R. For by Thy Cross and Passion Thou hast redeemed the world.

V. O make it soft with the drops of rain.
R. O bless the increase of it.

ALMIGHTY God, Lord of heaven and earth, in

GR

RANT, we beseech Thee, Almighty God, that the desires of our souls may be ever intent upon that blessed place wherein Thine only begotten Son our Lord, the glorious Author of our salvation, hath entered, so that in our conversation we may attain to that country whither we hasten by faith; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

R. And to His Saints, that they turn not again.

LORD Jesus Christ, the Eternal Son of the Eternal Father, who at the time of Thy glorious Ascension didst command Thine Apostles to tarry in Jerusalem, until they were endued with power from on high; and when, in obedience to this Thy commandment, they had there continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, didst, according to Thy promise, send down upon them the Holy Ghost the Comforter; Grant, we beseech Thee, that we Thy most humble servants, abiding in the unity of Thy Holy Catholic Church, the Mother of us all, and continually serving Thee as Thou hast commanded, may be evermore replenished with the heavenly grace of the Holy Ghost; through Thy precious merits and most powerful intercession, who livest and reignest with the Father in the unity of the same Spirit, ever world without end. Amen.
