9 And Abimelech called Ifaac, and faid, Behold, of a furety fhe is thy wife: and how faidft thou, She is my fifter? and Ifaac faid unto him, Because I laid, Left I die for her.

10 And Abimelech faid, What is this thou haft done unto us? one of the people might lightly have lien with thy wife, and thou fhouldelt have brought † guiltinels upon us..

II And Abimelech charged all his people, faying, He that toucheth this man, or his wife, fhall furely be put to death.

19 And Ifaacs fervants digged in the valley, and found there a well of † fpringing water.

20 And the herdmen of Gerar did ftrive with Ifaacs herdmen, laying, The water is ours: and he called the name of the well Elek, becaule they ftrove with him.

22 And he removed from thence, and digged another well; and for that they ftrove not: and he called the name of it | Rehoboth: and he faid, For now the LORD hath made room for us, and we fhall be fruitful in the land.

23 And he went up from thence to Beer-fheba. 24 And the LORD appeared unto him the fame night, and faid, I am the God of Abraham thy father: fear not, for Ian with thee, and will bless thee, and multiply thy feed for my fervant Abrahams fake.

25 And he built an altar there, and called upon the Name of the LORD, and pitched his tent there: and there Ifaacs fervants digged a well.

26 Then Abimelech went to him from Gerar, and Ahuzzath one of his friends, and Phicol the chief captain of his army.

27 And Ifaac laid unto them.Wherefore come ye to me, feeing ye hate me, and have fent me away from you ?

28 And they faid,+We faw certainly that the LORD was with thee: and we faid, Let there be now an oath betwixt us, eve betwixt us and thee, and let us make a covenant with thee;

29 That thou wilt do us no hurt as we have

5 And Rebekah heard when Ifaac fpake to Efau his fon and Elau went to the field to hunt for venifons and to bring it.

6 And Rebekah pake unto Jacob her fon, faying, Behold, I heard thy father (peak unto Efau thy brothers faying,

7 Bring me veniton, and make me favoury! meat, that I may eat, and bless thee before the LORD, before my death.

8 Now therefore, my fon, obey my voice, according to that which I command thee.

9 Go now to the flock, and fetch me from thence, two good kids of the goats, and I will make them favoury meat for thy father, fuch as he loveth:

TO And thou shalt bring it to thy father, that he may eat, and that he may blefs thee before his death.

28 Therefore God give thee of the dew of heaven, and the fatnefs of the earth, and plenty of corn and wine.

29 Let people ferve thee, and nations bow down to thee: be lord over thy brethren, and let thy mothers fons bow down to thee: curfed be every one that curfeth thee, and blefled be he that blefleth thee.

30 And it came to pafs affoon as Ifaac had made an end of blefling Jacob, and Jacob was yet fcarce gone out from the prefence of Ifaac his father, that Efau his brother came in from his hunting.

31 And he alfo had made favoury meat, and brought it unto his father, and faid unto his father, Let my father arife and eat of his fons venifon, that thy foul may blefs me.

32 And Ifaac his father faid unto him, Who art thou? and he faid, I am thy fun, thy firftborn Efau.

33 And Ifaac † trembled very exceedingly, rombled and faid,Who! where is he that hath † taken venifon, and brought it me, and I have eaten of all trembling before thou cameft, and have bleffed him? yea, and he fhall be bleffed.

Then Jacob went on his journey and cam

into the land of the people of the east. And he looked,and behold,a well in the field, and lo, there were three flocks of fheep lying by it: for out of that well they watered the flocks: and a great stone was upon the wels mouth.

3 And thither were all the flocks gathered: and they rolled the ftone from the wels mouth, and watered the fheep, and put the stone again upon the wels mouth in his place.

4 And Jacob faid unto them, My brethren, whence be ye? And they faid, Of Haran are we. 5 And he faid unto them, Know ye Laban, the fon of Nahor? and they said, We know him.

6 And he faid unto them, the well? and they faid, He is well and behold, Rachel his daughter cometh with the fheep.

7 And he faid. Lo, Tit is yet high day, neither is it time that the cattel fhould be gathered together: water ye the sheep, and go and feed tbem,

8 And they faid,We cannot until all the flocks be gathered together, and till they roll the ftone from the wels mouth: then we water the fheep. 9 And while he yet fpake with them, Rachel came with her fathers fheep; for he kept them.

36 And he fet three dayes journey betwixt himself and Jacob and Jacob fed the rest of Labans flocks.

37 And Jacob took him rods of green poplar, and of the hafel, and chefnut-tree,and pilled white ftrakes in them, and made the white appear, which was in the rods.

38 And he fet the rods which he had pilled be fore the flocks in the gutters, in the watering troughs, when the flocks came to drink, that they thould conceive when they came to drink.

39 And the Rocks conceived before the rods, and brought forth cattel ring-flraked, fpeckled and spotted.

40 And Jacob did feparate the lambs, and fet the faces of the flocks toward the ring-ftraked, and all the brown in the flock of Laban: and he put his own flocks by themselves, and put them not unto Labans cattél.

41 And it came to pass,whenfoever the ftronger cattel did conceive, that Jacob laid the rods before the eyes of the cattel in the gutters, that they might conceive among the rods.

42 But when the cattel were feeble, he put them not in: fo the feebler were Labans, and the ftronger Jacobs.

24 And God came to Laban the Syrian in a dream by night, and faid unto him, Take heed that thou fpeak not to Jacob † either good or + Heb. bad.

And Jacob fent and called Rachel and Leah to the field unto his flock,

5 And faid unto them, I fee your fathers countenance, that it is not toward me as before: but the God of my father hath been with me.

6 And ye know that with all my power I have ferved your father.

7 And your father hath deceived me, and changed my wages ten times: but God fuffered him not to hurt me.

8 If he faid thus, The fpeckled fhall be thy wages; then all the cattel bare fpeckled: and if he faid thus, The ring-ftraked fhall be thy hire; then bare all the cattel ring-ftraked.

9 Thus God hath taken away the cattel of your father, and given them to me.

10 And it came to país at the time that the cattel conceived, that I lifted up mine eyes,and faw in a dream, and behold, the rams which begoatt.leaped upon the cattel were ring-ftraked, fpeckled and grizled.

28-18.

11 And the angel of God fpake unto me in a dream, faying, Jacob: and I faid, Here am I.

12 And he faid, Lift up now thine eyes, and fee, all the rams, which leap upon the cattel, are ring-ftraked, fpeckled and grizled: for I have feen all that Laban doth unto thee.

13 I am the God of Beth-el, * where thou anointedft the pillar, and where thou vowedft a vow unto me: now arife,get thee out from this land, and return unto the land of thy kindred.

14 And Rachel and Leah anfwered and faid unto him, Is there yet any portion or inheritance for us in our fathers houfe?

15 Are we not counted of him strangers? for he hath fold us, and hath quite devoured alfo

our money.

16 For all the riches which God hath taken from our father, that is ours,and our childrens: now then whatfoever God hath faid unto thee, do.

17 Then Jacob rofe up, and fet his fons and his wives upon camels.

18 And he carried away all his cattel, and all his goods which he had gotten, the cattel of his getting,which he had gotten in Padan-aram,for to go to Ifaac his father in the land of Canaan. 19 And Laban went to fhear his fheep: and Raseraphim. chel had ftolen the images that were her faH/5. thers.

28 And haft not fuffered me to kiss my fons and my daughters? thou haft now done foolishly in fo doing, 29 It is in the hand to do you power of my hurt: but the God of your fa her fpake unto me yefternight,faying,Take thou heed that thou fpeak not to Jacob either good or bad.

30 And now though thou woukdeft needs be gon,becaule thou fore longedit after thy fathers houle, yet wherefore haft thou ftolen my gods?

31 And Jacob anfwered and faid to Laban,Be caufe I was afraid: for I faid, Peradventure tho wouldeft take by force thy daughters from me. 32 With whomfoever thou findeft thy gods,let him not live: before our brethren difcern thou what is thine with me, and take it to thee: for Jacob knew not that Rachel had ftolen them. 33 And Laban went into Jacobs tent,and into Leahs tent, and into the two maid-fervants tents: but he found them not.Then went he out of Leahs tent, and entered into Rachels tent.

34 Now Rachel had taken the images, and put them in the camels furniture, and fat upon them: and Labant fearched all the tent, but Heb. found them not.

35 And fhe faid to her father, Let it not dif pleafe my lord, that I cannot rife up before thee; for the cuftom of women is upon me: and he fearched, but found not the images.

36 And Jacob was wroth, and chode with Laban and Jacob answered and faid to Laban, What is my trefpafs? what is my fin, that thou haft fo hotly pursued after me?

37 Whereas thou haft fearched all my fruft what haft thou found of all thy houfhold fulf fet it here, before my brethren and thy brethren, that they may judge betwixt us both.

38. This twenty years have I been with thee: thy ews and thy fhe-goats have not caft their young, and the rams of thy flock have I not

39 That which was torn of beafts, I brought not unto thee: I bare the lofs of it: of my Exod. hand didft thou require it, whether ftolen by 22.12. day, or ftolen by night.

40 Thus I was in the day, the drought confumed me,and the froft by night,and my fleep departed from mine eyes.

41Thus have I been twenty years in thy houfe: I ferved thee fourteen years for thy two daugh ters, and fix years for thy cattel, and thou haft changed my wages ten times.

20 And Jacob ftole away † unawares to Laban of Laban the Syrian, in that he told him not that he fled. 21 So he fled with all that he had,and he rofe 43 Except the God of my father, the God of up, and paffed over the river,and fet his face to-Abraham, and the fear of Ifaac had been with ward the mount Gilead.

22 And it was told Laban on the third day, that Jacob was fled.

23 And he took his brethren with him, and

me, furely thou hadft fent me away now empty: God hath feen mine affliction, and the labour of my hands, and rebuked thee yefternight.

43 And Laban anfivered and faid unto Jacub,
