XXXI. Nd the LORD ipake unto Mofes, laying, 2 See I have called by name Bezaleel the ion of Uri,the fon of Hur,of the tribe of Judah. Ye fhall keep the fabbath therefore: for chap it is holy unto you: every one that defileth it, so. 8. The people in the absence of Mofes, caufe Aaron * Nd when the people law that Mofes delayed A to come down out of the mount, the people gathered themfelves together unto Aaron, and aid unto him, Up, make us gods which fhall A&.7.4 go before us: for as for this Mofes, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we wot Thot what is become of him. 2 And Aaron faid unto them, Break off the golden car-rings which are in the ears of your wives The molten calf. 28. And when Aaron faw it he built an altar before it, and Aaron made proclamation, and Laid, Tomorrow is a feaft to the LORD. 6 And they rofe up early on the morrow, and offered burnt-offerings, and brought peaceofferings: and the people fat down to eat and to drink, and role up to play. 7 And the LORD faid unto Mofes, Go, get thee down: for thy people which thou broughteft out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted themselves. 8 They have turned afide quickly out of the way which I commanded them: they have made them a molten calf, and have worshipped it, and have facrificed thereunto, and faid, 'Thefe be thy gods, O Ifrael, which have brought thee up out of the land of Egypt. 9 And the LORD faid unto Mofes, I have feen this people, and behold, it is a ftiff-necked people. To Now therefore let me alone, that my wrath may wax hot against them, and that I may con fume them: and I will make of thee a great nation. Pal. 11 And Mofes befought † the LORD his God, 63. and faid, LORD, why doth thy wrath wax hot Heb. againft thy people, which thou haft brought Ledforth out of the land of Egypt,with great power and with a mighty hand? face Numb 12 Wherefore fhould the Egyptians fpeak, 13. and fay, For mischief did he bring them out, to flay them in the mountains, and to confume them from the face of the earth? Gen. 13 Remember Abraham, Ifaac, and Ifrael thy fervants, to whom thou fwareft by thine own felf, and faidft unto them, I will multiply your 7. and feed as the ftars of heaven, and all this land that 7.and I have fpoken of, will I give unto your feed, and they fhall inherit it for ever. 16. 14 And the LORD repented of the evil which he thought to do unto his people. 15 And Mofes turned, and went down from the mount, and the two tables of the teftimony were in his hand; the tables were written on both their fides: on the one fide, and on the o ther were they written. 16 And the tables were the work of God, hap and the writing was the writing of God, graven upon the tables. .18. 17 And when Jofhua heard the noile of the people as they shouted, he laid unto Mofes, There is a noife of war in the camp. 18 And he faid, It is not the voice ofthem that fhout for maftery, neither is it the voice of -Heb, them that cry for being overcome: but the noile of them that fing, do I hear. 19 And it came to país affoon as he came nigh unto the camp, that he faw the calf, and the dancing: and Moles anger waxed hot, and he caft the tables out of his hands, and brake them beneath the mount. 20 And he took the calf which they had made, and burnt it in the fire, and ground it to powder, and frawed it upon the water, and 21 And Mofes faid unto Aaron, What did this people unto thee, that thou haft brought fo great a fin upon them? 22 And Aaron faid, Let not the anger of my lord wax hot: thou knoweft the people, that they are fet on mifchief. 23 For they faid unto me,Make us gods,which fhall go before us: for as for this Mofes, the gypt, we wot not what is become of him, man that brought us up out of the land of E 24 And I faid unto them, Whofoever hath any gold, let them break it off: to they gave it me: then I caft it into the fire, and there came out this calf. 25 And when Mofes faw that the people were naked (for Aaron had made them naked unto their fhame amongst their enemies.) + Heb. 26 Then Mofes ftood in the gate of the camp, thofe that and faid, Who is on the LORDS fide? let bim rofe up ed themselves together unto him. come unto me. And all the fons of Levi gather-in 27 And he faid unto them, Thus faith the LORD God of Ifrael, Put every man his fword by his fide, and go in and out from gate to gate throughout the camp, and flay every many his brothers and every man his companion, and every man his neighbour. 28 And the children of Levi did according to the word of Mofes; and there fell of the people that day about three thoufand men. 32 Yet now, if thou wilt forgive their fin: brothet and if not,blot me, I pray thee, out of thy book, which thou haft written. 33 And the LORD faid unto Mofes, Whofoever hath finned against me, him will I blot out of my book. 34 Therefore now go lead the people unto the place of which I have Ipoken unto thee. Exodus. 4And when the people heard the fe evil tidings they mourned: and no man did put on him his ornaments. 5 For the LORD had faid unto Mofes, Say unto the children of Ifrael, Ye are a ftiff-necked people: I will come up into the nndft of thee in a moment, and confume thee: therefore now put off thy ornaments from thee, that I may know what to do unto thee. 6 And the children of Ifrael ftript themfelves of their ornaments, by the mount Horeb. 7 And Moles took the tabernacle, and pitched it without the camp, afar off from the camp, and called it the tabernacle of the congregation: and it came to país, that every one which fought the LORD, went out unto the tabernacle of the congregation, which was without the camp. 8 And it came to pafs, when Mofes went out unto the tabernacle, that all the people rofe up, and flood every man at his tent door, and looked after Mofes, until he was gone into the tabernacle. 9 And it came to pafs as Mofes entered into the tabernacle, the cloudy pillar defcended, and ftood at the door of the tabernacle, and the Lord talked with Moles. ro And all the people faw the cloudy pillar ftand at the tabernacle door: and all the people rofe up and worshipped, every man in his tent door. Yet thou haft faid, I know thee by name, and thou haft alfo found grace in my fight. 13 Now therefore I pray thee, If I have found grace in thy fight, fhew me now thy way, that I may know thee, that I may finde grace in thy fight, and confider that this nation is thy people. 14 And he faid, My prefence fhall go with thee, and I will give thee reft. 15 And he faid unto him, If thy prefence go not with me, carry us not up hence. 16 For wherein fhall it be known here, that I and thy people have found grace in thy fight? is it not in that thou goeft with us? fo fhall we be feparated, I, and thy people, from all the people that are upon the face of the earth. 17 And the LORD faid unto Mofes, I will do this thing alio that thou haft spoken: for thou haft found grace in my fight, and I know thee by name. 18 And he faid, I beseech thee fhew me thy glory. 19 And he faid, I will make all my goodness 20 And he faid, Thou canst not fee my face: 22 And it fhail come to pafs, while my glory 8 And Moles made hafte, and bowed his head toward the earth, and worshipped: 9 And he faid, If now I have found grace in thy fight, O Lord, let my Lord, I pray thee, go amongst us, (for it is a fliff-necked people,) and pardon our iniquity, and our fin, and take us for thine inheritance. To And he faid, Behold, I make a covenant: before all thy people I will do marvells, fuch as 5.2. have not been done in all the earth, nor in any nation: and all the people amongst which thou art, fhall fee the work of the LORD: for it is a terrible thing that I will do with thee. 11 Obferve thou that which I command thee this day.
