And Saulipake to Jonathan his son, and to all
his fervants, that they fhould kill David.
2 But Jonathan, Sauls on, delighted much in
David, and Jonathan told David, laying, Saul my
father feeketh to kill thee: now therefore,I pray
thee, take heed to thy felf until the morning,
and abide in a fecret place, and hide thy felf.
3 And I will go out and ftand befide my father
in the field, where thou art, and I will communé
with my father of thee, and what I fee, that I
will tell thee.

4 And Jonathan fpake good of David unto
Saul his father, and laid unto him, Let not the
king fin against his fervant, against David: be-
caule he hath not finned against thee,and because
his works bave been to thee-ward very good.

Nd David fled from Najoth in Ramah, and came and faid before Jonathan,What have I done? what is mine iniquity? and what is my fin before thy father, that he feeketh my † life?

3 And David fware moreover and faid, Thy father certainly kuoweth that I have found grace in thine eyes,and he faid,Let not Jonathan know this, left he be grieved: but truly as the LORD liveth, and as thy foul liveth, there is but a ftep between me and death.

4 Then faid Jonathan unto David Whatfoever thy foul † defireth, I will even do it for thee.

16 And when the meffengers were come in, behold, there was an image in the bed, with a pillow of goats bair for his boliter.

17 And Saul faid unto Michal, Why haft thou deceived me fo, and fent away mine enemy, that he is efcaped? And Michal antwered Saul, He faid unto me, Let me go,why fhould I kill thee? 18 So David fled and efcaped, and came to Samuel to Ramah, and told him all that Saul had done to him: and he and Samuel went and dwelt in Najoth.

39 But the lad knew not any thing: onely Jonathan and David knew the matter.

26 Neverthelets, Saul fpake not any thing, that day: for he thought,Some thing, hath befallen him, he is not clean, furely he is not clean. 27 And it came to pals on the morrow, which was the fecond day of the nioneth, that Davids place was empty: and Saul faid unto Jonathan his fon, Wherefore cometh not the fon of Jeffe to meat, neither yesterday, nor to day?

28 And Jonathan anfwered Saul, David earneftly asked leave of me to go to Beth-lehem.

29 And he laid,Let me go,I pray thee, for our family hath a facrifice in the city, and my brother, he hath commanded-me to be there: and now, if I have found favour in thine eyes, let me getaway, I pray thee, and fee my brethren: therefore he cometh not unto the kings table. 2 And David faid unto Ahimelech the prieft, The king hath commanded ine a bufinefs, and hath faid unto me, Let no man know any thing of the bufineis whereabout I fend thee, and what I have commanded thee: and I have appointed my fervants f to fuch and fuch a place. 5 So David and his men went to Keilah, and fought with the Philiftines, and brought away their cattel, and fmote them with a great Daughter: fo David faved the inhabitants of Keilah.

6 And it came to pass when Abiathar the fon of Ahimelech fled to David to Keilah, that he came down with an ephod in his hand.

7 And it was told Saul that David was come to Keilah and Saul faid, God hath † delivered himinto mine hand: for he is fhut in, by entring into a town that hath gates and bars. 8 And Saul called all the people together, to war, to go down to Keilah, to befiege David and his men.

9 And David knew that Saul fecretly pratifed mischief against him, and he faid to Abiathar the priest, Bring hither the Ephod.

To Then faid David, O LORD God of Ifrael, thy fervant hath certainly heard that Saul feeketh to come to Keilah, to deftroy the city for my fake.

I Will the men of Keilah deliver me up into his hand? will Saul come down as thy fervant hath heard? O LORD God of Ifrael, I befeech thee tell thy fervant. And the LORD faid, He will come down.

12 Then faid David, Will the men of Keilah +deliver me and niy men into the hand of Saul?

And the LORD laid, They will deliver thee up.

13 Then David and his men which were about fix hundred, arofe, and departed out of Keilah, and went whither foever they could go: and it was told Saul that David was efcaped from Keilah, and he forbare to go forth.

14 And David abode in the wilderness in ftrong holds, and remained in a mountain in the wilderness of Ziph: and Saul fought him every day, but God delivered him not into his hand.

15 And David faw that Saul was come out to feek his life: and David was in the wilderness of Ziph in a wood.

16 And Jonathan Sauls fon arofe, and went to David into the wood, and ftrengthened his hand in God.

17 And he faid unto him, Fear not, for the hand of Saul my Father fhall not finde thee, and thou shalt be king over Ifrael, and I fhall be next unto thee, and that allo Saul my father knoweth.

18 And they two made a covenant before the LORD, and David abode in the wood, and Jonathan went to his house.

19 Then came up the Ziphites to Saul to Gibeah, faying, Doth not David hide himfelf with us in ftrong holds in the wood, in the hill of Hachilah, which is † on the fouth of Jefhimon?

20 Now therefore, O king, come down according to all the defire of thy foul to come down, and our part fhall be to deliver him into the kings hand.

21 And Saul faid, Bleffed be ye of the LORD, for ye have compaffion on me.

22 Go, I pray you, prepare yet, and know, Heb. and fee his place where his haunt is, and who foot hall hath feen him there: for it is told me that he dealeth very fubtilly.

26 And Saul went on this fide of the mountain, and David and his men on that fide of the mountain, and David made hafte to get away for fear of Saul: for Saul and his men compaffed David and his men round about to take them.

27 But there came a meffenger unto Saul, faying, Hafte thee, and come: for the Philiftines havet invaded the land.

16 And it came to pats when David had made an end of fpeaking thefe words unto Saul, that Saul faid, Is this thy voice, my fon David? And Saul lift up his voice and wept.

17 And he laid to David, Thou art more righteous then I: for thou hast rewarded me good, whereas I have rewarded thee evil.

18 And thou haft fhewed this day, how that thou haft dealt well with me: foradinuch as when the LORD had † delivered me into thine hand, thou killedit me not.

19 Forifa man finde his enemy, will he let him go well away? wherefore the LORD reward thee good, for that thou haft done unto me this day.

20 And now, behold, I know well that thou fhalt furely be king, and that the kingdom of Ifrael fhall be established in thine hand.

21 Swear now therefore unto me by the LORD, that thou wilt not cut off my feed after me, and that thou wilt not deftroy niy name out of my fathers houfe.

22 And David fware unto Saul, and Saul went home but David and his men gat them up unto the hold.

CHAP. XXV.

Samuel dieth. 2 David in Paran fendeth to Nabal. to Provoked by Nabals churlishness, be mindeth to destroy bim. 14 Abigail under Standing thereof, 18 taketh a prefent, 23 and by her wisdom, 32 pacifieth David. 36 Nabal bearing thereofs dieth. 39 David taketh Abi gail and Abinoam to be his wives. 44 Michalis given to Phalt.

8 Ask the young men, and they will fhew thee: wherefore let the young men finde favor in thine eyes: (for we come in a good day) give, I pray thee, whatfoever cometh to thine hand, unto thy fervants, and to thy fon David.

9 And when Davids young men came, they fpake to Nabal according to all thofe words in the name of David, and † ceased.

To And Nabal anfwered Davids fervants,and faid,Who is David? and who is the fon of Jeffe There be many fervants now adayes that break away every man from his mafter.

23 And when Abigail faw David, fhe hafted, and lighted off the afs, and fell before David on her face, and bowed her lelf to the ground;
