He ever lives above,
For me to intercede ;
His all-redeeming love,

His precious Blood to plead ;
His Blood atoned for all our race,
And sprinkles now the throne of grace.

Five bleeding wounds He bears,
Received on Calvary,

They pour effectual prayers,
They strongly plead for me;
Forgive him, oh, forgive, they cry,
Nor let that ransomed sinner die.

The Father hears Him pray,
His dear Anointed One,
He cannot turn away

The presence of His Son ;

His Spirit answers to the Blood,

And tells me I am born of God. Amen.

The Wanderer's Return.

I WAS a wandering sheep,

I did not love the fold;

I did not love my Shepherd's voice,
I would not be controlled.

I was a wayward child,

I did not love my home,
I did not love my Father's voice,
I loved afar to roam.

The Shepherd sought His sheep,
The Father sought His child;
They followed me o'er vale and hill,
O'er deserts waste and wild.

They found me nigh to death,
Famished, and faint, and lone;
They bound me with the bands of love,
They saved the wandering one.

They spoke in tender love,
They raised my drooping head:
They gently closed my bleeding wounds,
My fainting soul they fed.

They washed my filth away,

They made me clean and fair;
They brought me to my home in peace,
The long sought wanderer.

Jesus my Shepherd is,

"Twas He that loved my soul,
'Twas He that washed me in His Blood,
"Twas He that made me whole.
"Twas He that sought the lost,
That found the wandering sheep,
"Twas He that brought me to the fold,
'Tis He that still doth keep.

I was a wandering sheep,
I would not be controlled;

But now I love my Shepherd's voice,
I love, I love the fold.

I was a wayward child,

I once preferred to roam;
But now I love my Father's voice,

I love, I love His Home. Amen.

496 The Lost Sheep Found. P.M.

I WAS Wandering and weary

When my Saviour came unto me,

For the ways of sin grew dreary,

And the world had ceased to woo me;

And I thought I heard Him say,
As He came along His way,

O silly souls! come near Me;
My sheep should never fear Me;
I am the Shepherd True!

At first I would not hearken,
And put off till the morrow,
But life began to darken

And I was sick with sorrow,

And I thought I heard Him say, &c.

At last I stopped to listen,

His voice could not deceive me; I saw His kind eyes glisten

So anxious to relieve me.

And I thought I heard Him say, &c.

He took me on His shoulder,
And tenderly He kissed me;
And bade my love be bolder,

And said how He had missed me.
And I'm sure I heard Him say, &c.

I thought His love would weaken
As more and more He knew me,
But it burneth like a beacon,

And its light and heat go through me.
And I ever hear Him say,

As He goes along His way, &c.
Let us do, then, dearest brothers,
What will best and longest please us;
Follow not the ways of others,
But trust ourselves to Jesus.
We shall ever hear Him say,
As He goes along His way,

O silly souls! come near Me;
My sheep should never fear Me;
I am the Shepherd True! Amen.

Union with Jesus.

I THIRST, Thou wounded Lamb of God,
To wash me in Thy cleansing Blood;
To dwell within Thy wounds, then pain
Is sweet, and life or death is gain.

Take my poor heart, and let it be
For ever closed to all but Thee;
Seal Thou my breast, and let me wear
That pledge of love for ever there.

L.M.

How blest are they who still abide,
Close sheltered in Thy bleeding side!
Who life and strength from thence derive,
And by Thee move, and in Thee live.

How can it be, Thou heavenly King,
That Thou should'st us to glory bring;
Make slaves the partners of Thy throne,
Decked with a never-fading crown?

Hence our hearts melt, our eyes o'erflow,
Our words are lost; nor will we know,
Nor will we think of aught beside,
My Lord, my Love is crucified!

Ah! Lord, enlarge our scanty thought,
To know the wonders Thou hast wrought;
Unloose our stammering tongues to tell
Thy love immense, unsearchable.

First-born of many brethren, Thou!
To Thee, lo, all our souls we bow;
To Thee our hearts and hands we give;
Thine may we die, Thine may we live.

Amen.

Trust in Jesus.

I LAY my sins on Jesus,

The spotless Lamb of God;
He bears them all, and frees us
From the accursed load.

7,6.D.

I bring my guilt to Jesus,
To wash my crimson stains
White in His Blood most precious,
Till not a spot remains.

I lay my wants on Jesus:
All fulness dwells in Him;
He heals all my diseases;
He doth my soul redeem.
I lay my griefs on Jesus,

My burdens and my cares;
He from them all releases,
He all my sorrows shares.

I rest my soul on Jesus,-
This weary soul of mine;
His right hand me embraces,
I on His breast recline.
I love the Name of Jesus,
Immanuel, Christ the Lord!
Like fragrance on the breezes,
His Name is spread abroad.

I long to be like Jesus,
Meek, lowly, loving, mild;
I long to be like Jesus,
The Father's holy Child.
I long to be with Jesus,
Amid the heavenly throng,
To sing with Saints His praises,
To learn the Angels' song.

Amen.
