our weakness. Hold up our goings in Thy paths, that our footsteps slip not. And may every thought of our minds and every desire of our hearts be brought into subjection to Thy blessed will.

O Thou who hast so graciously preserved us during the day, take us under Thy kind care this night. Let no evil happen to us, nor any plague come nigh our dwelling. Keep us ever, we beseech Thee, under the protection of Thy good providence, and make us to have a perpetual fear and love of Thy holy name. Thou knowest, O Lord, that through the weakness of our nature we can do no good thing without Thee; grant us therefore the help of Thy grace; that in keeping Thy commandments we may please Thee both in body and soul.

Make us ever to bear in mind that our time is short. Give us grace to work while it is called to-day, remembering that the night cometh when no man can work.

O Lord, save us Thy servants, who put

our trust in Thee. Be Thou to us a strong tower from the face of our enemies. Keep us evermore from all evil. We commend ourselves, and all dear to us, to Thy care for the coming night. Be Thou our watchful guardian during the hours of darkness, and bless us now and evermore, for the sake of Thy dear Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Our Father, which art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day [or, day by day] our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive them that trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil: for Thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

The peace of God, which passeth all understanding, keep our hearts and minds in the knowledge and love of God, and of His Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Wednesday Morning.

ALMIGHTY GOD, we desire to

thank Thee, that we have been preserved in safety through the past night, and that we are spared to see the light of another morning. Give us grace to cast off the works of darkness, and to put upon us the armour of light. Shine, O God, into our souls; and cheer and comfort us with Thy gracious presence.

Vouchsafe, O heavenly Father, to direct, sanctify, and govern both our hearts and bodies in the ways of Thy laws and in the works of Thy commandments. Awaken within us an earnest desire to be holy as Thou art holy. We are tied and bound with the chain of our sins. O let the pitifulness of Thy great mercy loose us: so

that being made free from sin, and become servants to God, we may have our fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.

Arm us

Keep us, we beseech Thee, this day from all things that be hurtful, and lead us to all things profitable to our salvation. Watch over and defend our bodies; and do Thou also bless our souls. especially against all our spiritual enemies. When the Tempter assails us, give us grace to resist him. And as Thou knowest our infirmities, be pleased in all our dangers and necessities to stretch forth Thy right hand to help and defend us.

Grant that Thy Holy Spirit may in all things direct and rule our hearts. May we so faithfully serve Thee in this life, that we fail not finally to attain Thy heavenly promises. Graft in our hearts the love of Thy name; increase in us true religion; nourish us with all goodness; and of Thy great mercy keep us in the same all the days of our life.

We humbly beseech Thee, O Lord, for all sorts and conditions of men. We pray for all who are in authority over us, that Thou wouldest give them grace, wisdom, and understanding. Especially bless our Sovereign the Queen. Endue her plenteously with heavenly gifts; grant her in health and wealth long to live; may she evermore put her whole trust in Thee, and ever seek Thy honour and glory.

Bless all our friends and neighbours, the sick, and those who are desolate and oppressed. Be with them in all their sorrows, and and grant them that peace which

the world cannot give.

Especially bless all the members of this family, young and old. Sow the seeds of eternal life in every heart. Teach us so to live, that we may glorify Thee, and be useful to our fellow-creatures. And grant that we may so pass the waves of this troublesome world, that we may at length come to the land of everlasting life, there to reign with Thee world without end.
